Any way to shrink fibroids?

A friend of mine has been TTC for over 2 years, finally went for a sono with her OB and they found multiple fibroids along with endometria on the ovaries. I have no experience with fibroids but any ways to shrink them? Would she need surgery to remove them? She's going to consult with her OB soon and will eventually go to a RE with referral but curious if any of you have experience. She's terrified.

Castor oil packs! Google it & there are YouTube videos to show you how to do it. It worked for shrinking my ovarian cysts too.

Re: Any way to shrink fibroids?

Iodine, and magnesium....

Getting your minerals in balance, is probably one of the most important things you can ever do for all issues of the body.

Castor oil helps the liver, supporting the liver is very important in methylation/sulfation...which is the body's way of detoxing and regulating hormones. Minerals/vitamins play such a tremendous role in in these processes

Methylation/Sulfation is a huge part of infertility. Larger then was once imagined and of course a big role in the epigenetics of the babies' conceived.

It's really complicated, but to sum it up, if you can support your liver, and add in some magnesium especially transdermally, like mag sulfate-epsom salt baths/foot soaks or magnesium chloride if you don't tolerate epsom salt well, and figure out where iodine fits in...you can definitely affect those fibroids.

There are some really great facebook groups out there ..feel free to FM

Lots of people have fibroids.
IF depends on how large & where they are.
Ob should be an expert on this.

Any way to shrink fibroids?

There is no way to shrink them. They are nothing like Ovarian cysts. They are masses and they feed on your hormones. But there are things to do to keep them from growing more. Certain foods, vitamins, etc are supposed to help, grapefruit being the best. But nothing worked for me and mine kept growing.

There are different surgery options depending on the size, location, amount, etc. She should get more then one opinion before having a procedure done. I went to an RE for a final opinion.

The best case scenario is laser. This is an easy outpatient procedure and 9 times out of 10 this is what is used to take care of them. I believe the recovery time for this is about a week and you can resume TTC in a month.

In the end I had a myomectomy. I only had one fibroid but it was 12cm x 9cm x 8cm. It is the worst of the possible procedures as its a full abdominal surgery. Basically a c-section where I got a mass the size of a grapefruit instead of a baby. I won't lie, the recovery is rough (rougher then my c-section was). I was in bed for 4 weeks, on the couch for 4 more, and couldn't TTC for 6 months. Because of scar tissue I ended up going through IVF, but I now have a beautiful DD.

But honestly it is important she looks into it and gets them taken care of if necessary. Getting pregnant with a lot of fibroids, or in my case one large fibroid can lead to a lot of complications during pregnancy, as fibroids grow faster when you are pregnant. The biggest complication is early labor, because they take up a lot of room in the uterus.

Fibroids don't necessarily prevent someone from getting pregnant, in and of themselves. I have fibroids and have had 2 healthy pregnancies.

I have fibroids and have been able to get pregnant. I know the location of the fibroid itself can be an issue but shrinking them is not. The doctor could just remove them if he/she thought it was interfering with getting pregnant.

Thanks girls.
She has 8 that are spread apart and are 3cm in size. She's been TTC for a while so she is thinking this is what is causing her IF. Hopefully her work up with a RE will give more info.

3cm are fairly small. I have/had at least 5 fibroids that were around 5cm, and again, no probs with pregnancies.

Yes but waiting to have it can set you back a year. Because if you can't get pregnant with them guess what, your having the surgery anyhow. Also can be dangerous being pregnant with them, for you and especially the baby. They can grow rapidly when your pregnant and take up room in the uterus and trick your body into thinking you are further along then you are.

The location of them is as important, if not more important then the size. In uterus is bad, blocking Fallopian tube, really bad. Outside the uterine cavity may be ok.

8 at 3cm seems like a lot. Think about it, that's 24cm of fibroids. My single one was 5cm when I started trying, 7cm when I went to an RE and decided to give it 6 months, 12cm when it came out.
