When will you retire?

Minimum age 60. Depending on financials and cost of living at that time may continue working part time...

When will you retire?

We should have our house paid off before we are 50, and we've started a large savings for ds college already, and have a lot in retirement funds, and DH has a pension through work as well.... Hoping to retire between 50-55.

Re: When will you retire?

When I sign into my 401k, it tells me that my expected year of retirement is 2041. Chat Icon Chat IconChat Icon

So if that's accurate, I would be 60

Re: When will you retire?

Depends! My SS retirement age is 67.5. I SAH now but hope to go back and work until 55. For that to work, I wound need to find a job by this summer. The longer I don't work, OBV the later I'll have to work. DH says he will not retire, just change things up later on (PT, real estate).

He was nypd so he is bringing home as much now with his pension as he did while working. ( due to tax differences, savings in commuting costs etc).
he will eventually find a part time job just to do something and beat boredom but he is being picky about what he does since it's more for "fun" than anything else.

Re: When will you retire?

I won't retire until my last child leaves college...right now that leaves me at 55 and that is my minimum to retire for my full pension...I plan to work longer though, probably until closer to 60, but that could all change depending on our financial situation then.

DH is counting down the days..probably around 60/65.

Me? I'm a teacher, so I get lots of time off. When I can't physically work?

I can retire at 55. Not sure if I will at that age. My youngest son will be in college still.

When will you retire?

Never at this rate. I've never had a job that offered a 401k.

I would start funding a Roth if you haven't already done so.

Re: When will you retire?

I am not working too much these days and not out of choice. I do go crazy at times. So until I am working consistently I do not see retirement till at least 70.

My mom was a sahm and went back to work at 55 and just retired last year at 72. My dad technically retired at 70, but continues to work at 76. My parents have tons of hobbies.
My in-laws are going stir crazy being retired at 67 and 62 and worse is they have no hobbies and no grand kids to watch.

Re: When will you retire?

Retire completely? Maybe mid-60s. Assuming I'll still be at my current job at that point, I will have the years to retire around age 55 but will probably continue & wait to collect SS (if it still exists) at 62 or 65, unless I'm just tired of it earlier. Also I'm assuming I'll be healthy enough to do it for that long as well & whatever other circumstances will occur in my life, who knows, and also I have no idea what my finances would be like at that point, so actually I have no idea. I'm speculating that I'll retire in my 60s but maybe not.
