I passed the glucose test but I'm anemic...
Hi All - Anyone else have experience with being anemic during pregnancy? The dr said its very common and to supplement with an iron pill and eat more red meat, spinach, nuts and beans......
Maybe this is why I've been really tired lately.

Yes. I took a prescription iron pill.

I was told to take an OTC pill called SlowFE
Just FYI...iron can make your poop very dark so don't be alarmed!!

Just crashing, but it's totally normal. I was with my first DS and my mom said she was pregnant with me. Just took iron pills. Fine after pregnancy and with DS2 I wasnt. Happens a lot.

Yup- have to take a daily iron pill. My friend is anemic to begin with and has to get iron shots daily now that she's pregnant- it's very common to be iron deficient when pregnant!

Yes, but let them know when you get to the hospital. I had a covering OB deliver me who did not have my history and I almost went into cardiac arrest after delivering from blood loss that I couldnt recover from bc I was anemic (dont panic, its not common) and spent the night and day after delivering in the CCU instead of in post partum with my baby. My resting heartrate shot up to 168 and wouldnt come back down. After tons of testing, EKGs, beta blockers, my regular OB came in, and was like "ummm, shes anemic" I got a blood tranfusion and was fine after that.

Yes and don't be like me and procrastinate not taking the pills. I'm on iron 3 times a day. I almost fainted last week. I'm nervous I am having my c section in the next few weeks and I don't want complications. With my dd I needed a transfusion 2 weeks prior to delivery.

I had to take extra iron with all of my pregnancies. This time around my numbers were so low, that I have to go for weekly iron infusions by IV . I had three so far and just went back to my hematologist and they want me to go every week until the baby comes.boo.
