This bothers me because it's an isolated incident (his termination, not him beating her) - IF the NFL was planning to put something in place to terminate all of these pieces of sh*t - then, yeah - I'm all for it.
But I feel like this is just a knee jerk reaction re: public opinion . NOT th say this guy isn't a pig, b/c he is ..........but I just don't think it's right, professionally, do terminate him, and none of the others .........KWIM?
I understand what you are saying, but the precedent has to start somewhere. They cant change previous repercussions for players, but they can set a new standard. I know they are not stating this is going to be the "punishment" for all going forward, but its a start

I get he's to some degree a public figure - but hello, you can't be paying know felons millions of dollars to play football, and then try to make an example out of ONE person because of a picture - ......... Yeah, b/c the rest of the NFL is full of upstanding citizens ....? Please.
I get what you're saying.
I feel if players can get year long suspensions for doing drugs, or showing up to training camp with Amphetamines in his system, (looking at you Wes Welker) Ray Rice can certainly get in trouble for beating the shit out of his fiance. He was the dumb f8ck to beat her on video surveillance. He wasn't arrested because he told people she was passed out. She looked dead on the video.
No NFL franchise is going to want him as the face of their organization.
I'm also going to go out on a limb and say this probably isn't the first time he's abused her. She won't press charges against him, she might be too scared, or hell maybe he gave her some hush money. I only hope she wakes the F up, and leaves him ASAP. Once a beater, always a beater!

He was arrested.
Ravens RB Ray Rice was indicted today on one count of aggravated assault. Carries a 3-5 year prison term. New Jersey law states that Rice could qualify for third degree aggravated assault. If convicted, he would face a prison sentence minimum of 3 years with a maximum of 5 and a fine of up to $150,000.
Interestingly enough NJ passed a law on "ban the box" where you can no longer ask on an employment application (unless it is specifically job related) if someone has been convicted of a crime unless it is required by law.
From the email I received today (effective March 15th):
The law establishes certain employment rights for person with criminal records by prohibiting employers from asking applicants about their criminal record history during the initial employment application process

I'm a little taken aback by some of these comments. Who the f--K cares if she hit him first? He was not defending himself, he almost killed her. He is a football player. He could have, and should have, turned his back on her, and walked away as soon as he got off the elevator. He literally could have killed her, and people are concerned that she hit him first. Again, I know abuse goes both ways, but this is not a case of him "defending himself" It just scares me that anyone, especially women, would even mention what she did.
FYI: I am a Ravens fan, I have a Ray Rice jersey, I'll be throwing it out tonight. The NFL is of course covering their butt, but at least Ray Rice is shown to be the POS he is, and is suffering for it.

For real???? She probably married him because she has zero self esteem and is a victim of both physical and emotional abuse.
This is news because this is someone people considered a hero. And he certainly acted like one. Ray Rice did a lot of good work, both in Baltimore and in his NY home of New Rochelle. But no one should look up to someone that knocks out a woman.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe she doesn't have the self esteem or the means to leave him? I'm going to just venture a guess here that this isn't the first time he's beaten her, and it won't be the last if she stays.
She's a victim plain and simple and doesn't deserve this. That's like saying a woman who wearing a mini skirt deserved to get raped

For the record just because I said she hit him 1st doesn't mean I think she deserved that hit/punch. My point was if you're going to be free with your hands don't be surprised if he hits back. Because not everyone is taught to not hit women. He's a piece of sh!t plain and simple. And deserves everything coming to him. Or being taken away, however you want to look at it.
ETS: And there is no way I believe the NFL didn't see this video till today! They are only taking serious action today because it was leaked/released to the media.
Why wait till the video comes out? The result was the same whether they saw the knock out or not.
They are only covering their asses because they knew there would be a huge backlash if they didn't. Disgusting. Put not surprising since it's all about money.

If you do any research on victims of domestic abuse it isn't that black and white. If your husband smacked you in face tonight you would probably pack your bags and leave. That's not how these people work, they groom their victims building them up and beating them down until they feel the lowest if the low and that there are no other options. He could even threaten her with their child, he's rich and famous she isn't and he'll get custody, it's similar to how women who are kidnapped and enslaved don't leave their capture. Like in that ohio case, where they had the opportunity to leave but were scared.
Personally my heart bleeds for her and there need to be rules set in place so these pigs can never play again. Wtf why is this even a question?!

I can. It's either one of two things.
1- He has eroded her self esteem so much that she believes she deserved it, believes she can't leave, etc.
2 - She's sticking with the money train. Possibly she grew up with abuse & is ok with it. But she's willing to take the hit because she wants the lifestyle.

Except that he was already punished per the NFL's policy. That's what bothers me about it. I'm not condoning what he did, of course, but I think a better statement would have been the NFL setting a new policy going forward, since the already punished him per their rules.

Yes I agree. They are several known players who have been charged with domestic violence and are still playing. The NFL is in damage control. That is the only reason they reacted this way.

I agree with you. I can't believe people are defending this azzhole and making excuses for him. He could have KILLED her. This was obviously not the first time he hit her or knocked her cold. I can guarantee that.

I don't know what I find most disturbing. The fact that he hit her the way her did and just dragged her around like a doll, the fact that she married him after this, or that the NFL gave him a 2 game suspension and claims that they never saw the video.
I get that she swung at him first and I am all about defending yourself make or female but there are other ways he could have restrained her or defended himself without a blast to the face
