this is where I live. So so sad. I do not know the family but it's heart breaking. I don't understand it and I hope I never understand how it happens.
Tragedy.
If you watch the report it mentions a woman leaving her kids in the car b/c they were sleeping to go into target? WTF is wrong with people? I would NEVER leave my kids in the car. I was in my driveway, when my dd was sleeping, I opened the windows and sat OUTSIDE to watch her. Common sense. I would never just leave them unsupervised.

I can't with these stories anymore. I really can't. 
You can flame away but I will NEVER understand forgetting your child in a car. NEVER, EVER, EVER.
My kids are my FIRST and ONLY priority and they are on my mind ALL of the time. I just can't wrap my head around forgetting your child. YOUR CHILD!!! A living, breathing human being. It's not like forgetting a mug of coffee or your backpack. How do you forget your baby???
Sorry, these stories make me utterly sick to my stomach. The thought of these babies sitting in sweltering cars dying a slow and horrible death because of their parents negligence is just too much. It breaks my heart.
That poor, sweet, innocent baby.

A passersby helped a sweating, screaming 5-year-old crawling from locked truck in an Albuquerque parking lot. A tragedy was averted while parents shopped inside Home Depot.
While her oblivious parents shopped inside an air-conditioned store, their sweat-drenched little girl freed herself from the hot hell of a locked truck in New Mexico, aided by the kindness of strangers.
The 5-year-old had been imprisoned for more than an hour in temperatures that passed 90 degrees before she finally crawled through a rear sliding window. Customers heard her wailing and pulled her to safety.
"Screaming, sweating, unsure and very scared," said Sheena Mayorga, describing the child to KOB-TV.
She and her fiancé, Hector Ramirez, were walking in the parking lot when they heard sobs and screams. As they approached a red truck with tinted windows, they saw the girl wriggling through the back window.
She was wet from head to toe, disoriented and terrified.
"We were just trying to calm her down," said John Bodenheimer, who was walking with the couple.
Store employees and another customer took the distraught child into the Home Depot and gave her water.
Paramedics took her to a nearby hospital. She is being treated for heat exhaustion.
Forty-five minutes later, the parents returned to their truck, where they were met by police.

I couldn't agree more!!!!
I just cannot fathom forgetting my child for any period of time let alone an entire work day I don't get it, the thought of their child doesn't cross their mind at all during 7 or 8 hours????????

I don't understand how anyone does this. How/why would you leave your child in a car? Especially when it's hot out
How does the person that left the kid not ONCE throughout the day remember they had someone in their back set? How does daycare/school not call to see where the child is? (I know it's not their problem but as a teacher I want to know who is out and possibly why) If it happens to be a switched day how does the other parent not call/text to see how drop off went ( i know that doesn't always happen, My DH dropped dd off once and I was texting him an hour later to find out how it went.
This whole situation boggles my mind. I can't get my head wrapped around it

Well, when the mother is also involved in this (which I'm convinced of in the Georgia case)......
yes the georgia case is a little different (so far) from this CT case. These cases where it seems to be a mistake

A 78 degree day will get the inside of a car to 120 degrees in 30m!
Wtf is wrong with those parents, they're daughter is FIVE! She can't go into the air conditioned home depot too???
And the CT case there isn't enough info out but last summer when dd was 8mos she'd sleep in the car and I would stay in it WITH her WITH the AC on for both of us and my window cracked bc DH got nervous about carbon monoxide. I never would leave her alone.
I would have physically attacked those parents if I had been there, I don't feel bad for them at all crying. Why was their daughter locked in the truck, they're sick.

That poor baby to have to endure that pain & die that way, horrible & sad. Accident or not, a parent who does this should be prosecuted to the fullest extent the law allows... it's total negligence. While I can't imagine the horror of realizing a mistake like that & having to live with it forever, it's just awful to think about, I think there has to be some punishment. I don't think I could go on living if I ever forgot my kid in the car & he died. Scary to even contemplate.

I can't stop crying for all these kids.
I am just so sad for them and also terrified. I hope all these cases make people more vigilant- there is a movement now- where people are taking off their left shoe and leaving it in the back seat so they do not forget their kids. It might sound ridiculous but I dont ever want to forget my children- so I am planning on doing it.
Also making it a point to check the car seats EVERY time I get out of the car.
And be vigilant in parking lots- if we all paid attention, maybe more of these poor babies would be saved.

I like that graphic too--I don't think people realize how hot a car can get when it is a nice 60 degree day.
That was the lady in the headphones story's defense--it wasn't a hot day, but it can still get hot in the car. And these stories of the kids hat were saved. . .they were sweaty & screaming--so you know the ones that passed did not go peacefully.

There were signs like that in all of the parking lots at the beach I was at in Georgia. For pets & kids.

It's horrifying how hot a car can get how fast. They are conducting a test using the Georgia dads SUV parked in the same spot as it was that day. They are saying it is as hot as 140 degrees
Last night on the local news they did a test and the car rose to 115 in just 20 minutes.
They gave some tricks to remember your baby is in the bag
-take off your shoe and put it in the bag
-leave your purse or briefcase in the back
-take a stuffed animal and put it in the passenger seat in the front and when the baby is not with you leave it in the car seat
-a little boy came up with the idea to tie a rope from your seat belt to the door handle so when you go to get out it blocks you
-they also have inventions that beep or honk your car when you walk away without taking yor child out.
I'm really hoping car manufactures equip cats with a standard alarm. Like when I'm in the passenger seat and not wearing my seatbelt that incessant singing goes off until I put it on bc it senses weight in the seat.
But unfortunately that still won't prevent people who do this intentionally. Those disgusting animals.

Maybe if they start prosecuting all these assholes who leave their kids in their cars then other parents will wake the hell up. Parents are so entitled sometimes - I dont want the bother of taking my child into the store...its only for a few minutes...its easier...whats the harm...well there is harm and until someone starts prosecuting your entitled, negligent, lazy ass nothing is going to change.

Those are some good ideas.
I still don't understand it when the child is older... an infant can fall asleep instantly, that I can see being an honest to goodness mistake... but these children who are toddlers and older, I just don't get it. They made no noise in the back seat the entire drive? You had no inkling that they were back there?

No it won't. And the Ga case really has me wondering how many more of these "accidents" really weren't?
I really wish that a law was in place to require day care/nursery schools to call if a child is unexpectedly absent. I think of all the asinine rules in place at these places and this one could actually save lives. Even if it saved one child it would be worth it IMO.
My DD only goes part time and I can decide those days by filling out a calendar each month. How hard could it be to have that in place so even PT kids could be accounted for? So sick of these stories...
