Cursing?

I love a great curse, but it's not the way we speak at home. I feel some people think kids cursing is funny. Am I too uptight ?

Cursing?

Now that DS is talking I really try to watch my language in front of him.

I think even worse than that, when parents think its funny that their children repeat the curses!

Cursing?

No. I'm laid back about most things but I dont curse in front of my child and will tell others to stop if they are doing it around my kid

Re: Cursing?

No I yell at my DH a lot if he curses in front of kids. I don't go for that. My parents hardly cursed in are house and now me and my sister don't really do it. So far my five year old has yet to say a curse word.

Cursing?

I curse in front of my kid. But I don't think it's cute if a kid is constantly cursing. I'm not going to like, it's funny the first time they do it. But I will maybe turn my head and laugh but I wouldn't encourage it. I'm trying to work on my cursing though cause I sound like a trucker.

I don't think you are uptight.

Cursing?

This is going to be a huge problem for me b/c I curse without even realizing. I kept joking while pregnant that DD would be cursing out of the womb! But I would never ever let her curse. I would probably laugh the first time if she said something but after that would not be good.

My coworker allows her kids to curse but only at home. I've heard them curse and it's pretty shocking to hear a 7 year old dropping F-Bombs.

I curse a lot. It's really what you make of it. I obviously don't curse in a professional environment or any environment that isn't casual (like a PTA meeting for example). My kids do not curse just because I do. They did once or twice when they were so small that they were just blindly repeating sounds. You would be surprised how young they realize without it being explained that certain things are only appropriate for adults. My kids just know that they don't curse even though I do. It's kind of the same premise as how kids can act more polite in school than at home. At home my two boys will fight so hard sometimes over toys etc. At school the teachers say they are perfectly polite and have no issues with sharing. They know that in school the bs is just not tolerated, even though it wasn't exactly explained. It's the same kind of thing, imo.

Re: Cursing?

I have the mouth of a sailor, and my DS (5.5) will correct me if I say a bad word LOL.

I don't find kids cursing to be funny or cute. I do let my kids know if a word that is borderline cursing (freaking, jeez) is not appropriate for them to say and they will tell me "okay mom" - end of story. However, I never ask people not to curse in front of my kids, they are going to hear it anyway. I find it more effective for them to learn which words are bad then to try and shield them from it.

Re: Cursing?

My grandmother did and still curses like a sailor, LOL! We were around her ALL the time as are my kids now. We never repeated it bc as the previous poster stated, we understood the difference between what adults were allowed to do and what we were not.
