When did you stop bottles?

My dd will be 1 next week. She's from 6-7 bottles to 4 during the week and 2-3 on weekends. We've already started mixing formula with milk, going to finish the containers and be done with it. She loves drinking out of straw cups so we are thinking of switching her during the day bottles to cups and keeping the morning and night bottle for now. She rolls with change but I don't want to make a change too quickly. All of the other babies at daycare are still on bottles so I don't know if she will be upset if they have bottles and she doesn't. Suggestions?

Re: When did you stop bottles?

We tried to take them away at 12 months and it was a DISASTER. Utter disaster.
She was acting like a drug addict going through withdrawals. Screaming, thrashing, shaking.
It was awful.
I gave them back to her- I couldn't see her suffer like that.
At around 15 months, I came home from work one day and DH said to me- she's off bottles.
I was like Chat Icon WHAT?
He said he was taking her on a walk and just told her that there were no more bottles and she'd have to take her milk in a cup.
And she was fine with it.
Took it no problem and never asked for a bottle again.
I really believe when they are ready, they are ready and you can't force it.
DD is living proof of that.

When did you stop bottles?

at 12 months when we switched to milk She wouldn't drink milk out of a bottle or cup at first so I just got rid of all the bottles (dr agreed it was the correct way to go since she wasn't taking it out of either one) and went through like 7 different cups until we found one she liked! She was never a big drinker though so she would only take maybe a cup of milk a day maybe 2. She drank and still does water most of the time

DD is 14.5 months and still gets 2 bottles (7am, 6pm) and her midday milk is in a sippy! My son was off bottles completely by 15m but I don't feel a rush with her.

When did you stop bottles?

At 1 we went down to one at night and one in the morning. ANything else he had was in a cup. The bottles were comforting to him and we tried a few time with little success. He just dropped them last month at jsut over 2. I didn't like it but it was not a battle I will willing to fight. He did it on his own

When did you stop bottles?

My pediatrician suggested waiting until 15 or 16 months or so. We started milk at 1 year. My son gets straw cups during meals with milk or water and milk in the morning, afternoon and night in a bottle.

DD - Cold turkey at 17 months

DS - He was never really a big bottle baby. By ten months he was getting tired of them and hated formula so I started switching him over to milk. By 11 months he was on all milk and off of all bottles except for his nighttime one. He gets maybe 4-5 oz before bed but he's starting to get tired of they too so.we are almost 100% done with bottles. (He's 13 months old now)

All 3 12 months when we went to milk
My kids were not bottle lovers though. My 3rd especially by 11 months he really could care less about them.

All 3 liked the plates sippy cups for milk and plate straw cups for water best. I have a huge bin of sippy cups that I tried with them before I found the ones they liked.

Re: When did you stop bottles?

DD went down to one bottle at bedtime, at about 12-13 months. At 15-16 months, I just threw it out. She didn't miss it at all.

Re: When did you stop bottles?

Being off from work all week, I decided to take her morning and afternoon bottle away and giving Dd milk in her straw cup with her meals. She is still getting her evening bottle I didn't want to change it up too quickly. To tell ya the truth I don't even think she cares! She just turned 1 a couple of weeks ago.

Re: When did you stop bottles?

we switched to a bottle that has two interchangeable nipples. One is a no spill nipple that we transitioned to first because it makes her work more lol. The other was more of a nuby type nipple. Finally we just switched completely over to a nuby sippy

When did you stop bottles?

On dd 1st birthday we packed away bottles and started using the sippys. She had no issues. Didn't phase her one bit. However my child would drink her milk out of a shoe if I gave it to her that way. Lol!! Dd loves her milk and food. Lol

When did you stop bottles?

I took it away at 12 months and he had problem with it. I don't even think he noticed it was gone! Just try taking it away and see what happens.

When did you stop bottles?

4 months old but she only would need to use a bottle before this when i went into work a few times. I stopped working and became a sham. never had to give her a bottle since. I ebf. with that said i started her on a straw cup at 4 months. If i were to go out and she needed milk she maybe would take a bottle but probably a better shot in her straw cup.

18 mos. I wasn't in a rush- he drank from straw cups but always asked for a bottle in the morning.
One night we said Goodnight to all the bottles and I told him tomorrow we will drink from a cup. During the night I put away all the bottles and in the morning he was ok with it

When did you stop bottles?

Ds was one week shy of a year. Dd was 3 weeks shy of a year. They both transitioned right to straw cups. (My older Dd was almost 15 months before she was off completely)

Re: When did you stop bottles?

I switched DD from formula in a bottle to milk in a cup cold turkey. We had already cut out the night time bottle, so she was up every time she was drinking.
