As someone who has a 4 yo in pre-k now and will be starting elementary school in Sept, this scares the sh*t out of me! Totally and completely unacceptable!

I always joke that i am going to sit outside in my car and wait for dd while she is in pre-school. I am seriously thinking about doing this now. How do we know our children are safe?

Aren't doors locked? Someone at the exit so people don't enter or leave without being seen. I just don't get how these kids can just walk out of a school unnoticed. Very scary. Glad he is safe and not injured.

Nope doors are not locked. This was brought up at one of the PTA meetings in DDs school and we were told they are not allowed to be locked because then they become a fire hazard.

Omg, I can't even imagine. How does that happen?! My DS is almost 4 and they are constantly counting the kids and would NEVER let them go to bathroom alone!!! If they walk anywhere they have a rope they all hold on to or they are in a line with two teachers on either end while they pat the wall the whole way. Four year old's are still babies!!! This is so frightening to me, I can't even imagine what the parents are going through.

Unreal.
I have a 5 year old. My MIL was watching my son for 10 minutes while I went home to grab some items for a bbq. (She lives literally two houses down). Im in my kitchen gathering what I needed and I hear a knock on my door. It was my son. My idiotic lunatic of a MIL didn't notice he left the house and walked home.
I had a few words for her. In my mind, I choked her to a bloody pulp.

See my DD's primary school. To get in you are buzzed. They have an adult at a desk at the door. No one is leaving without signing out. I stand corrected. The doors are locked to outsiders but they are hard to open to leave so kids would struggle. An adult could open them. I thought most schools had someone be it just an adult or security at the school entrance to stop anyone from coming in or leaving.
I can understand a kid in the hallway wandering if they must use a bathroom outside their classroom but how can they just walk out. Isn't there any kind of security desk?

There is always more than one door in a school. The security guard/person at the desk is at the main entrance. All the other doors are unmanned. Doors should be locked from the outside but be able to be opened from the inside incase of a fire. What I would love to see all the schools have is an alarm on all doors to go off or at least alert the main office if they are opened.

So wrong. My daughter is six and when I pick her up early there are two other students that are walking her down, so they can walk back to the classroom together. No way should a 4 year old have left that classroom alone. I wonder when the school realized he was gone, on their own or after being notified he was home. This is terrible. Perhaps common core and testing should be put on the back burner and safety in schools should be looked into more. This is just so unacceptable.
