So annoyed - breast pump related
I called my insurance company the other day to find out that we completely have no coverage for breast pumps!!! I responded with- "I thought that NYS has a law that insurance companies need to have some sort of coverage for breast pumps."
She replied - "This isn't an insurance company, this is Magnacare"
Lol I can't. Magnacare is the worst!!!
End rant. :)

Ghi city of ny won't cover either. Grandfather clauses. Gotta love it.

I have NYC GHI and bought one out of pocket bc they aren't covered. (I actually bought it with my DD, begore Obamacare started covering them...but I just bought all new parts for this LO). I recently read that you can claim up to $1,000 of bf supplies on your taxes...so keep your receipts.

I have the NYS empire plan and my plan does not cover breast pumps either- it is grandfathered so the new rules do not apply.

Ghi won't cover it. So mad now. I thought the same that nNY insurance has to cover it.

Many of the plans are grandfathered making them exempt from the new laws.

It really is not fair. It's a huge expense for something that is truly needed. I did also hear about being able to claim the expenses on your taxes. Hopefully that's true!

I totally agree that it is not fair. I do not know if claiming it on your taxes is possible but it is something I will definitely ask my accountant. It may fall under medical expenses in which case you have to meet a minimum for a deduction.

I work for nys and my insurance paid for it. Maybe it was under united health

It is my particular plan that does not cover the pump (or any durable medical equipment)- it is a graduate student plan not the standard employee plan.
