A couple of questions about an Injectibles cycle

I'm currently in the middle of my injectibles cycle to be an egg donor. I started the injections while I was on vacation.

225 Follistim
2 vials Menopur

I went in yesterday for my first monitoring appt. They called later in the day and reduced the Follistim to 150 and told me to start Ganirelix injections in the am.

Went in this morning for another monitoring appt. They saw at least 8 follicles on my right ovary and a few small ones on my left.

Just got a call that my estrogen level is high. They kept my meds the same and asked me to come back tomorrow for another recheck.

So my questions are:

1) What does a high estrogen level indicate....could it possibly mess up the cycle?

2) Are they generally able to see/measure all the follicles? I was hoping for a lot of follicles to give my sister the best chance. Do they generally retrieve more/less than what they see during the monitoring appts?

1) High estrogen could lead to you developing OHSS. I had a mild case (I think) all 3 times I stimmed. Your estrogen levels are usually high because you have a decent number of follicles maturing. If your level is excessively high, see if you can trigger with Lupron instead of HCG - that will decrease your chances of developing OHSS.

2) Follicles all develop at different rates. It is VERY likely that many of those follicles that they can not currently measure will catch up to your 8 measureable follicles. When you trigger will really determine if they will be able to catch up or not. It is good that they are monitoring you more closely now. Even with high estrogen, I usually still stimmed for an additional 2-3 days.

Good Luck to you and your sister!

They are probably putting you on watch for hyper stimulation. You may have more follicles but most likely they may not be mature or they can catch up to the others. Seems as though you have more time. Good luck and i commend you for helping your sister! Thats such an amazing thing to do.
