How to choose a formula

I need to switch DS from BM to formula. With all the different options available now, which one do I choose? Organic, Enfamil Stages (Newborn then Infant), Probiotics, etc...? I asked the ped several weeks ago, and they didn't really give me an answer; just said it doesn't really matter, and that I can choose.

It's true, you can just pick something and go from there. DS was started on Enfamil in the NICU, so we stuck with that once I stopped producing. Last month he had a lot of spit up trouble, so I switched to Similac and he seems to be doing fine and hardly any spit up.

Earths Best is highly recommended for organic formula. I've also heard great things about Target generic brands and Gerber.

Generic. 100%
Exactly the same- has to be by law.
And half the price.
Target actually has a ton of options too- everything from the generic version of AR to the gentlease to soy.
I loved it.

I am using ends mil newborn right now apparently it contains something extra baby should get. I will switch to regular enfamil after 3 months till most likely about 6 months then switch to target brand like I did with DD

The only thing extra is the amount of vitamin D is slightly higher than Enfamil Infant.

Re: How to choose a formula

I had trouble with BFing and wanted to only used Earths Best for my DD since it is organic. DD had lots of gas/reflux issues and had to switch to the Earths Best sensitive. However I did not see a change in her gassiness and she almost seemed worse. A month ago I switched to Gerber Good Start and it is great. I use the "soothe"version. Its a great formula I would reccomend to everyone.

How to choose a formula

The main thing we were advised is to start and continue to use the same type of formula: Milk vs. Soy based. We started with Similac Milk Based regular formula, and had to switch to the Sensitive blend. It becomes trial and error. I know Similac has a formula that helps transition from BF to FF. I gave a friend the samples and she says that her DD loves it and now takes to the bottle a little better.
