Yet another starting solids question
So I started dd on solids, oatmeal cereal, last Thursday when she was 5 months. She's not exactly getting it. There's more on her face than in her mouth. How long did it take them to adjust to spoon feeding?
This weekend I will introduce sweet potatoes and something new each weekend after that so dh can see it. Do I stop with the oatmeal or give both? When did you go to twice a day?

Re: Yet another starting solids question
DD caught on right away, eating happily and easily. DS, on the other hand, pushed it out, winced, was NOT a fan, took a week or two befre he got into it.
Are you BFing? My Ped says if you're BFing then to start at 6 months and the first couple of months is just for practice and to do one "meal" of solids a day (so that they don't reduce the amount of BM they're drinking). I think this is an extreme view, I'm not sure.
And, yes you can start sweet potatoes if you've given the oatmeal 3 days to rule out any allergies.

Yet another starting solids question
She takes it and smiles, but she's not exactly opening her mouth for the spoon unless I make her laugh. Not bf'ing but I still make sure she takes her bottles bc that's where her nutrients are coming from.
I know about the waiting 3-5 day thing, but when I do the veggies/fruits do I continue with the oatmeal at the same time?

My dd would open her mouth but like your dd more was on her face and clothes than in her mouth. I would say 6 months she was getting better at it. I never did oatmeal so im not sure

Yet another starting solids question
Once you "clear " a food from allergies you can continue using it in your meals. You do not need to fees it to them all the time but use it to mix things up.
Don't over think the feeding. It's not that hard but the more you think about it the more you will drive yourself and in turn your DD crazy. The only thing you need to do is the 3 days til you add sow thing new in. But all the "old" items are fine to mix and match with

Mine is 7 months and still wears more food then she swallows. Sometimes she opens wide sometimes a little but. Meal time is messy but fun.

Re: Yet another starting solids question
I tried with everything at 5 months. DD wanted nothing to do with food. I was practically shoving it in. I waited and tried again at 7 months. She now eats everything and gets it:). My pediatrician said they are leaning away from cereals now and just recommending going straight to veggies and fruit. My kids never liked any cereals.
