Re: Hard wood in the kitchen?

We have it, and it is very scratched and even dented in a few places after two DC and living here with it for 7 years.

That being said, I prefer it to tile for the warmth (My kids and I are always barefoot) and for the "softness" of it.

Hard wood in the kitchen?

My parents have had it in their kitchen for over 20 years - still looks great.

I plan to put hardwood in my kitchen when we redo our kitchen so that it continues throughout the whole house.

Back to this again... We haven't started the renovation yet and I'm still torn. One contractor told me today that when you spill on the hard wood, it stains.

Has this happened to anyone? He specifically said that Coke would stain.

Thanks for any input!

I grew up with a wood kitchen floor and it did get some wear and tear. The house I moved to recently has beautiful tile. Given the choice though I would definitely have picked wood - I found it warmer, easier to clean and I like the look better.

If the wood is properly finished, it shouldn't stain. Spills are a daily occurrence around here - no stains or water damage on the floor. Maybe if the coke spill sits for hours it could eat through the finish? you could always get a sample piece and do some testing.

We put wood in this kitchen after having it the last one too. There are some dings from things being dropped but we intentionally put down a wood with character so that it would age well. (we have 5" plank cherry floors).

Re: Hard wood in the kitchen?

Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, I had a sample piece of stranded bamboo outside for an entire year. If I lightly sanded and resealed it, it would still look brand-new. I doubt a little soda would make any mark. I would bet that my bamboo would stand up better to soda spills than a lot of tile. Tile has grout, which stains relatively easily, and some natural tiles might not repel the soda as well as sealed hardwood.
