Cat litter- what is your practice?

I just can't stand it anymore. The smell from the litterbox (which is changed daily), the litter trails all over, I am ready to send my cat straight to Chinatown.

Those of you with cats, how do you prevent litter tracking all over? how often do you change the litter in entirety (emptying entire box and replacing with fresh litter)

Re: Cat litter- what is your practice?

We change the litter completely every two weeks, and scoop it every day/ every other day (It's clumping litter). I leave mats by the two litterboxes, so that helps a little bit with tracking. The thing that helps the most is vacuuming. I vacuum every other day. I don't notice a smell until it is close to changing the litter completely.

What kind of food are you feeding your cat? Sometimes that can affect the smell.

Re: Cat litter- what is your practice?

we use Yesterdays News (or Petco brand). I like it because the pellets absorb and dry up the poop and there is literally no smell. I have 2 cats that use the litterbox. We do not scoop but use a litter bag and change it every week completely.

Re: Cat litter- what is your practice?

I have a mat right outside the litter box that helps with the tracking of the litter. It usually takes the litter right off his paws before he leaves the area and I vacuum the mat and around it a couple of times a week.

As far as the litter, I use Scoop Away (big purple bag from Costco) and I scoop the litter every night and put down a little fresh litter on top. I completely change the litter every 2 weeks. We never smell the litter box

Cat litter- what is your practice?

We have 2 cats, 2 litter boxes. We use scoopable litter, scoop every other day and change litter completely every 2 weeks. Litter boxes are in our laundry/utility room, so we have about 5 feet in front of the boxes covered with a mat, so little or no litter leaves that room. I never notice a smell unless one of the kitties just made a ripe deposit while I am in there...lol.

Re: Cat litter- what is your practice?

I have one cat and use Feline Pine with a litter box liner.
It is non-clumping, but I can pick out and flush the solid waste.
Depending upon how much she pees, I change the box every 10 days to 2 weeks. Just pull out the liner with everything in it, give the box a quick wipe down with some Clorox wipes and line/fill it again. Towards the end is when I start to notice a pee smell, but not so obnoxious.
As for tracking, she does track a little bit of the pellets, but I use a mat outside the box to catch most of the pellets and have the whole thing sitting on a small area rug that I can easily shake out or vacuum

we have two cats. My pretty little girl's litterbox hardly every smells regardless of the litter. We try to scoop once or twice a week. My big fat male cat stinks. The only litter we have found to work is Fresh Step. We have a large litter box mat with deep grooves to trap the litter. We still have to vaccuum daily around the mat but it is typically well confined to that area. We scoop his box every other day.

We are a multi-cat household; the boxes are completely dumped and changed every day.

The smell really does not infiltrate too much because the cats have their own room. They are free to roam throughout most of the house, but their boxes, toys, bowls, etc. are in their room. However, when it does, the Febreze Pet Odor is amazing!

Re: Cat litter- what is your practice?

I use Swheat scoop b/c its safe for cats with asthma, but as a plus its also flushable, which is great. I was so tired of the litter tracking that I started keeping the whole box in the tub!
