Amanda Bynes Involuntarily Hospitalized UPDATE
UPDATE:
(TMZ) - Amanda Bynes is exhibiting signs of schizophrenia ... and medical professionals and others WILL seek a 2 week extension on her 5150 psychiatric hold so doctors can properly diagnose her, sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ.
TMZ reports ever since Amanda was taken into custody Monday night - after she lit a fire on an elderly woman's driveway in Thousand Oaks, CA - people close to Bynes are convinced she's suffering from mental illness, specifically schizophrenia.
Sources tell TMZ that Amanda's parents will now ask a judge to put the 27-year-old in a conservatorship, a la Britney Spears, because they believe she is unable to care for herself and could be a danger to others.
Amanda's parents have wanted to take action for the past couple of months - but they didn't have the goods because Amanda's conduct was not so over the line that a judge would take away her freedom.
Now, after the driveway fire incident, the circumstances may have changed enough to convince a judge Amanda needs help and supervision.

(TMZ) - Amanda Bynes is currently hospitalized on a 5150 hold after starting a small fire in the driveway of someone's home Monday night, TMZ has learned.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the fire department responded to the home in Thousand Oaks, CA last night, and called the sheriff's department after finding Amanda standing in the driveway next to the campfire.
Sheriff's deputies questioned Amanda about what she was doing, and why she was doing it -- and based on her answers they determined she needed to be hospitalized on a 5150 hold.
A 5150 hold is an involuntary hospitalization for mental evaluation. She can only be held for 72 hours though.

Its about damn time! Thankfully she did this is California, because obviously NYC wasn't taking her mental disorder very seriously.

Yeah, when she got arrested. I thought they'd find something then. They always show her smoking those hand rolled cigarettes, I thought at least pot. Must be tobacco though because pot stays in your system for so long!

I just heard on Wendy Williams that after she set the fire, she left and went to a liquor store to wash her dog off that was covered in gasoline.

Yea but she seems like she is on something way worse than pot! Unless shes just drunk 24/7 which is a possibility too.

As someone who LOVES celebrity gossip, I just hope that the paps and press leave this poor girl alone. It's obvious to me and has been for sometime that there is something seriously wrong mentally with this girl. It's one thing if she's doing drugs and spiraling out of control on her own free will, but it's obvious to me that this is not the case here and that the press should let her and her family be to deal with these very serious issues. I also pray they take away her twitter account too!

I don't know- I don't think it was THAT obvious that it wasn't drugs. Until she got arrested, I truly thought that's what the problem was. But now we know better.
I do agree that I *wish* people would leave her alone and let her take some time to get better in private, but that will NOT happen.

I have been saying since her behavior started that she was at the age that serious mental illness tends to rear her head. I believe she needs lots of help and medication and hope that she finally gets it now.
