Shady, just shady.

So I just recently started a new business, kind of like direct sales, but without the home parties and all that jazz that normally goes along with it.

So yesterday, I posted the link to my new business and then my new Facebook page which I stared earlier in the day...

Then the class mother from one of my DCs classroom messages me on FB and says, hey, I saw your business....Im going to do it too. I ignore the message even though it rubs me the wrong way. She joins. Fine.

Also, our smaller kids go to the same daycare and obviously she knows all of the same moms I do.

This is a kid geared product that moms love! It is very uncommon, the company and until yesterday I had never heard of it.

I get to daycare today and she has dropped off flyers for her business and then I get home and there is an email to all the parents in our other DCs class about her new business.

Im so annoyed, she knew it was my new thing and then went and joined and then went after a lot of my potential clients.

I just think it was shady and unethical. I didn't say anything, just kept her as a FB friend and then blocked her from seeing any updates.

WWYD? I think it was a slap in the face since she put me on that email. I didn't reply or personally reach out bc who knows how long I will have to deal with her since our kids be in the same classes for years to come and I don't want to come off as catty.

I know its all fair game, I just think it was a really shady thing to do.

I would be miffed, honestly.........but that's the nature of any business.

It's dog eat dog

Being that it's not a biz you created yourself from scratch, I'm not sure she was completely in the wrong.

I wouldn't do anything. There's not much to do....but I would still be annoyed.

I'm sorry, though. :(

No, she definitely wasn't. It's the intentional shadiness of it, you know? Especially that she put me on her mass email, on purpose.

Its not that she signed on, its that she signed on, KNEW who I was going to be reaching out to and then intentionally beat me to the punch. Its not like I had months or even a week and didn't do anything to reach out to my potential client base...I started YESTERDAY.

She just sucks, and purposely did it...its her ethic that bothers me, not that she wanted to do the same thing.

I would be upset too. It was a very underhanded thing to do.

I would handle how you did. Not let her see your updates etc. Unfortunately, you will have to see her because of your kids. So I wouldn't advertise where your kids will go to school. Go outside your area where she's not known to go and make it your own.

Good luck!

Yeah, I totally see you're point. I really don't think I could do that to someone, especially another mom in my kid's class!! You guys obviously run in the same circles.

Are you going to stick with the business? maybe you could find something better?

Re: How would you handle this?

I think it's pretty ballsy of her.

But honestly, and I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but I think personally, this is why it's tough to get involved in direct sales.

In the grand scheme of things, you really are only able to target the circles you are in, friends and family for the stuff you are selling, and that, IMO, can get to be too much.

I also always wondered how people handled selling the same thing, in an area where there are others who are involved in that same sale.

I recently began buying a direct sale product from a vendor on here, that I love, and family loves it too, but DH said he would never allow me to get involved in selling it.

I'm not going to post his exact words because I don't want to start a war on here.

No, definitely not the wrong way Chat Icon . Its not traditional direct sales, its just the closet thing i could use to describe it. What I LOVED about this was that literally no one else I have ever heard of was promoting this item.

All of this!! I'd be upset by the whole thing. I know its the nature of being in a business, but I feel like you should at least respect people you see in every day life, have close ties with, etc. I'd be pissed if that happened to me.

On a side note- can you FM me about this product? Cuz I'm intrigued now!

Re: How would you handle this?

How can the other mom do this and still look you in the eye at school?

I know some moms get upset if another mom starts to do pampered chef, stella and dot, etc. and start to solicit.

I personally don't like those types of sales but I will always support my friends. I think you can continue and still succeed. If she just put out the flyers, you can still put out yours. I just hope it does not become a popularity contest and become drama.

She jumped on contacting every one before you could. That would really annoy me! But these kind of things only work out for the most aggressive women.

Re: How would you handle this?

Is it possible that she really had planned on starting this business before knowing you were? She did message you and tell you and I guess you saying you planned to start lit a fire under her to get out her advertisements.

I thought this too.Did her initial email sound like she got the idea from you or maybe she had heard of it and she just hasn't joined yet?

Either way, I get that in situations like this it's a "first to get the clients" way of business but her knowing that you both have a lot of mutual connections it seems like she definitely stepped all over and IMO it's just plain rude.

(On a side note, can you FM me the name of the company too please, I'm curious to see what it's all about)

Eta: saw your response about her email... if she didn't know beforehand about it then she was just plain inconsiderate and rude.

It stinks but it just seems like she got her act together quicker and jumped on the opportunity.

SO shady and tacky. She should not have done that. And I can't believe she got all that together to almost show she "beat you to it". UGH. I'd want to punch her in the face, lol. (and i'm not a violent person lol). So sorry!

I had a friend at work do something similar. She claimed she wasn't really selling, but sold products to a coworker of ours for over $100 bucks. I was so so pissed, but there was nothing I could do about it.

It sucks, but ou have to let it go.
