Weird or Not Weird? DH and I disagree.
We've had many contracters do jobs in our house since we bought it, so I guess I'm just comparing this to the other people we've used in the past....
The guys working on our garage are constantly knocking on my door to use the bathroom and just asked me to order them lunch. They did not offer to pay or anything when I brought the food out to them, either!! Is this weird?? I say yes, DH thinks it's perfectly normal. Am I responsible for feeding these guys and having them stomp through my house every 30 minutes to use the bathroom? IDK where other workers we've used went to the bathroom or what they ate for lunch and I find this kinda bizarre. Am I wrong here?? lol

I can't see the bathroom thing btu the lunch.....NO WAY! The people paying me at work don't buy my lunch for me. I'd go out there and be like "by the way, lunch was $xx.oo, let me know if you need me to get you change"

Using the bathroom seems perfectly reasonable to me. I would NOT be buying them lunch though. What if it was a long term job that extended for weeks? Would they expect you to be buying them lunch daily? That can reakky add up! If so, I would be deducting the cost from the fee!

Bathroom is not weird, unless you want them peeing in your pushes  but the lunch thing? VERY weird and totally rude!

The bathroom thing grosses me out but I understand if they ask and have to go, although ive rarely had any ask (even when I lived with my parents). The food thing- heck no!!! You are paying them to work, they need to provide their own lunch. When I go to work, no one pays for my lunch. Go out and tell them how much they owe you. I always offer water and ive seen my dad offer a beer (at end of day) but thats it!!!
If there is an owner or head guy I would say something to him.

We had a lot of work done on our house and there were workers here for about five months. We rented a porta-potty for them because DH didn't want them using ours. As for lunch, they never asked or demanded, but we did buy them lunch once in a while just to show we appreciated their hard work.

I'm going to make DH go in there and say something to them about the food. So freakin' rude. We left them cases of water in the garage when they started the job which I thought was necessary. Feeding them, not so much!
I can def see the bathroom thing too, but it is totally skeeving me out. I will be bleaching everything later today. Now I'm really wondering where other workers have gone to the bathroom...

It is weird for them to ASK you, but I also think it would be nice of you to offer lunch to them. We had major work done on our house last year. The crew was here for 5 days. We did ask each day what they would like for lunch. They would say don't worry about it, etc..but we did order them food.
The bathroom..they have to..where else are they gonna go?

DH is a self-employed contractor and this would never go on. If they need to use the bathroom that bad, they will go to a gas station or something.
His crew brings their own food, as does DH.
On occasion, you will get a nice homeowner who will go out of their way and either cook or buy meals. It is absolutely never expected though.

I've never experienced workers using my bathroom. I wouldn't say no if one asked, but I think it's sorta weird.
I have offered and bought them coffee before, but no way would I buy them lunch.
When I still lived with my mom the Fios guy came to install at our house and he was there for about 6 hours. My mom bought him a slice of pizza, and he was really appreciative.

Not to make you paranoid or anything, but I would also be careful about letting people into your house that you don't know.
Several years ago, my parents had a bathroom re-done and some jewelry went missing. While they obviously couldn't prove it was the workers, there was no one else in the house during that time period.

And my point about the yard was that obviously if people are working all day at your house, they have to relieve themselves. So no, I don't think bathroom use is weird.
Lunch was way rude though imo.

I wouldn't care if they used the bathroom. The lunch thing is odd. Very rude in my opinion and if they are still working at your house I would say something. We always offer water or ice tea and have bought food but it wasn't something the guys expected

Not weird. My BIL is having a patio put in and he buys them lunch. Not sure if they use the bathroom. I would do the same if I had workers over, I think lunch is a nice gesture.

Asking you to order them food and then not paying is wrong. It's one thing if you offer but you didn't and absolutely shouldn't be responsible for feeding them. The bathroom thing is annoying just bc I wouldn't want to deal with the mess and strangers traipsing thru my house but I wouldn't say no or anything.
I think you should say something to the owner about the lunch thing.

The food thing I would be annoyed if they had me order something specific and not pay-I just think that's rude for anyone..that being said any time we've had work done we've bought them breakfast and lunch and dinner if they're still there...

It depends on the situation...
My DH is an independent contractor. Under no circumstances would he ever allow the lunch thing to happen - not cool at all. They should bring their own water, food, etc. It is kind for the client to offer, but never necessary or expected.
The restroom thing can depend on many things. If they are working inside the house, the client should not expect the workers to go to a gas station to go to the restroom.
If there are 10 guys working outside, I can see it being a burden to the homewoner.... There are many different situations.... I don't know... I don't ever see myself denying someone working on MY house the use of the bathroom.
It seems some people on here see "blue collar" workers as third world country citizens....
