Christmas card wording

I am newly remarried and both of us have children. What is the proper way of listing the children's names on the card? I put my two children first and his two after mine and he asked why I chose that orderChat Icon
Bottom line is- if he were single he wouldn't even be sending cards.

Re: Christmas card wording

Could you do age order? Or alpha order? Or yours, his, yours, his....or by gender?

Christmas card wording

That would make my kids listed last and I know that would bother them. This is so annoying

I think it is typical to list in age order. My mom always listed the 3 of us oldest to youngest. You are a blended family now, they will have a adjust!

I agree with the others who stated age order. As for your children, I don't know how old they are but maybe you could just explain that it's not based on anything other than age (if their concern, or disappointment with not coming "first" is that they're concerned it's better to be listed first) and that they're just as special regardless of the order in which they're listed.

Agreed. And if it is still an issue maybe do:

His Oldest, Your Oldest, His Youngest, Your Youngest

well, if it bothers your kids to be listed last, then how do you think his kids feel?

the fairest to everyone is to put it in age order

If he has a problem with it, i would do age order. Or honestly next time tell him he can write them out if he has that big of a problem. Such a silly thing to get mad over.

If you're handwriting them, alternate each card with a different order.

Age order.

There are going to many times where you are going to have to address why the older kids can do x,y & z. I think your kids should know that they are just as important but that's the way things are listed.

Re: Christmas card wording

def age order...its the easiest way and how most families do it. i think anyone reading a card expects the names in age order and wouldnt think anything of the placement

just tell your kids this is how it is done so they dont get annoyed....

How old are all the kids? Can they write their own names? Have everyone sign each card with their own name anywhere on the card they want so the names are all scattered and in no particular order.

In fact, if the order of names bothers him, then obviously he wants a say in the card. Make him put some effort into them by writing his own name too.

I was just going to write this! Do age order. You are a complete family. There is no more his/mine.

Well think of how your step kids would feel if their names are last. You are a blended family now. No more his and mine.
