Anyone have experience with a child suddenly afraid of the bath?

I'm at a loss here. DS is 13 months and up until a couple of nights ago LOVED the bath. Now he screams and stands and wants to be taken out. I put his toys in, the water temperature is fine...I don't know what happened. Any experience or advice? TIA!

My DD did that too, I think she was closer to 2 when it happened , it lasted for a few months. Then she went back to loving the bath. I tried new toys for the bath new , bath products, I tried the bath fizz tablets and the elmo foam soap. But not much help, i would just give her a bath real quick wash her off and it was done in 5min, of course i was usually soaking wet after but it only lasted a few months.

Ditto. My LO went through this stage around 2. It lasted a few weeks and suddenly everything went back to normal.

DS went through these stages where he loved the bath and would cry coming out. Then he would hate it, and cry going in. Right now he hates it, and cries going in. His bath mood changes constantly.

yep. dd was terrified of the bath. we realized she was afraid of the water falling into the tub. we would fill it up before and she'd be fine. then she just didn't wanna be in the tub so we gave her showers. off and on that fear came back. broke our heart, she used to be a little fish. she's gotten way better, but the toys never came back to the water. she's got this weird fear of them drowning i think. hang in there!

Re: Anyone have experience with a child suddenly afraid of the bath?

DS is 2.5 and goes through phases when he doesn't want to go the bath, once he's in he loves it

I don't think its a fear, I think its a control thing, we still can't break him from it.

I offer a step stool and tell him, "either you climb in by yourself, or I will pick you up and put you in" there is no other option or way out. Since we started offering potty, he now will say I need to pee, and sit on the potty for what seems like hours just to avoid bath. Once he's in, he doesn't want to get out Chat Icon

Same thing happened to DS - it passed after a week...

Now he'll just act this way when he wants to do something other than bathe...

Re: Anyone have experience with a child suddenly afraid of the bath?

Yes this recently happened to my 9 month old DD but it was my fault. I always filled up the tub before putting her in but one time I put the water on again while she was in the tub and she freaked out. Chat Icon Ever since then she would cry when I put her in the tub.she was fine if we brought her tub elsewhere. Yeaterday I held her outside the tub and put the water on low. I let her feel the water coming out and told her there was nothing to be afraid of. It seemed to work bec. she let me bather her in there after.

yup....but my dd#1 was 3 when she started literally having anxiety over taking a bath, she thought she was going to go down the bathtub hole no matter how much i told her she was too big to fit the holeChat Icon she went hysterical, getting all blotchy red rashes all over, it was insane to watch and i had to find a way to never let that happen again so i talked up the whole shower thing saying it was for big girls and for some reason she was calm and happy taking showers Chat Icon
