Dream Feeding???

we started this last night with DD (almost 6 weeks old) and it worked great!!!
We did bed time routine at 8 - she was passed out by 8:45.
We dream fed her at 11:30 and she did not wake up until 5:30!!!!!
So my questions are for those that dream feed/fed:
how much does your little one eat in a feeding?
how do you know when they are ready to sto the dream feeding/when do you stop dream feeding?
do you change their diaper before or after?
Any other advice would also be greatly appreciated!!
TIA

We did 4oz at 8:30pm and an additional 4 oz at 11:30

how do you know when they are ready to sto the dream feeding/when do you stop dream feeding?

We started at 4 weeks and dropped it at 11 weeks. I think we could have done it earlier but we were too nervous to mess it up!

do you change their diaper before or after?
Always after, he would be asleep by the time he finished the last ounce of the dream feed.

WOW!!! 4 ounces!!!!
i thought an additional ounce was great.
How long did the dream feeding take????
we didnt change her diaper at all during the dream feeding - is that okay? I am afraid if i change it after, then she will be up and then we will be screwed.

Re: Dream Feeding???

We gave him a full 4oz because it was breast milk. It isn't as heavy and i felt as if he needed a certain amt of ounces a day, and if he wasn't waking in the middle of the night, he was missing a feeding. Dream feeds were always pumped bottles ahead of time. I didn't change his diaper unless it seemed heavy or he had pooped. The dream feed lasted about 20 min because he would fall asleep during it. We would push on his cheeks to keep him up. I also only heated 2 ounces at a time so we wouldn't waste it if he wouldn't wake back up. For us, as soon as we started the dream feed he eventually went from 830pm-1130pm and then 12am-7am. now at 6 months he sleeps 830p-615a straight. I think it is the perfect solution to get longer stretches!

It's when you get the baby up and feed them while they sleep through it. That way, they won't have to wake up for a middle of the night feeding, which usually takes longer to get them back down. For a dream feeding, you get them up, feed them while they sleep, and then put them right back down.

Re: Dream Feeding???

we did this for months, otherwise the twins would wake us at 1 am and that was not ok wiht Mommy! We would wake them at 10 ish swaddle them up and give them a 4 oz bottle in their bouncers (only bc they are twins and could not feed them both by myself without the bouncers, oh and while pumping.) They get 4 oz of BM at every bottle feeding. We would not change them unless they were poopy
