Together or separate for school?

My twins will be starting pre school in September and pre school sign ups start right after the holidays. I am so torn as to what to do with them. A huge part of me wants to keep them together the the 1st year and separate after that. Then another part of my thinks I should separate them from the beginning.

Ideas? Advice? BTDT? Help me!!!! LOL

Re: Together or separate for school?

My boys are 4 and I kept them together. It seems to be working for them.

I think I have to separate them next year. they are going to repeat pre-k because they were not due until Dec but came in late Oct and I feel that they are just not yet ready for Kindergarten.

It is a little easier on me as well. There is only one classroom to stop at and only one set o teachers to buy presents for at holiday time....stuff like that.

I don't really think at this young age they need to separated. They are just starting to be social and really know who their friends are.

Re: Together or separate for school?

This is such a great question. The girls are only 8 months old so I am "worlds away" from this topic, but it has always been something I've thought about.

I don't actually think I will have an option as my kids attend private school and there is typically 1 class per grade. But, I often wonder if I am doing them a disservice by keeping them together.

Re: Together or separate for school?

I always thought i would separate once they got to kindergarden - pre-k and nursery school together

But my SIL is a twin and her and her sister were together all but one year - they did not like getting different amounts of work and ended up going to college together but to different law schools - they have tons of firends and loved being together - they went to private school so it was always the parents choice

Re: Together or separate for school?

My twins are only 16 months but ive thought about this and think it would be best to keep them together for prescholl and early elementary. I figure since they are boy girl twins, they will definitely make their own friends.

I am starting them in the same pre school Dom went to in the 3 yr old program and i think I am going to keep them together. With November birthdays they are young so I want them to have 2 yrs of school before kindergarten.

My boys go to a daycare/ school type setting. It goes up to pre-k. I plan on keeping my boys together until they begin K.

Re: Together or separate for school?

I will be putting mine in for 2 yrs of preschool, they are 2 now, so they will be a month shy of 3 when they start and I am going to keep them together the first yr and possibly seperate the second yr. I will decide then. I will without a doubt do it in K and above.

My twins are 18 months. They will be together for nursery school, pre k and kindergarten. Then we'll see.

Re: Together or separate for school?

I want to keep my girls together for as long as they want to be together. They are three and extremely close. They are also NOv. babies so they are always going to be young. I think they give each other a lot of good emotional support. I have been reading a site that actually advocates for parents having the sole say on if they seperate their twins or not in school. There is some research that backs their claims that it should be a parent's decision. NY is on the list of states that give parents a choice (at least according to the site I was reading.)

I don't see an issue with keeping them in the same class. Unless they started misbehaving and it was causing the teacher problems. Then I would seperate them.

I plan on keeping my boys in the same class until Kindergarten. I don't see anything wrong with having them together.

Re: Together or separate for school?

My kids attend a small private pre-K so there is only one all day class right now so they are together.

I didn't want to change schools and separate them the same year. They will be separate for K.

I have taught multiples at the high school level and because of scheduling/elective/tracking twins sometimes wind up in some of the same classes.
