Finally, someone had the ballz

This afternoon, my daughter's classmate's mom handed us an invite to her daughter's birthday party. On the very bottom of it, in small but firm handwriting was a line: "No siblings, please!"

My first thought was: "Why, THAT'S ballzy!!!" My second: "You go, girl!!!!" Chat Icon

Honestly, I WISH I had the guts to put that on the invite of certain invitees but I know I never will.... Chat Icon

Re: Finally, someone had the ballz

It shocks me how many people assume its ok to bring siblings. I can understand a little bit more if it's a party at the house, but if the party is at a place, don't they realize you're paying per head?! I think she obviously learned from experience that it needed to be clear that siblings were not invited.

Re: Finally, someone had the ballz

I would never think I could bring a sibling to a party thry weren't invited to. That takes ballz right there !!

Good for her to set the record straight beforehand.

I have an only child, so for me it doesn't matter. I would rather the invitation be clear, but she should be prepared that some kids just won't come because of babysitting issues.

wow- I've considered it a million times but never would write it.

I'm having the silbing problem less and less as the girls get older - I dont know if its gong from daycare to pre-school or what.

I have to say, with DH working every weekend and night I bring siblings to parties, but only if I can pay for her separately. Otherwise we dont go. It's rough but I've had the sibling problem myself and its not fair at all

i would prefer 6 less kids at my kids party then have to pay for 6 extra kids who were NOT invited to the party.

Ditto! Birthday parties aren't a family affair IMO. The kid who knows the child and is invited is the one that should attend.

Re: Finally, someone had the ballz

If it's an ongoing issue with your child's class or area, I think it's great that the parent put that. I have never had anyone ask if they can bring siblings to one of my child's parties nor have I ever asked to have one of my other children participate. I've brought mine along to something and never took the parent up on joining in if they offered. I've offered for other children to join in if they were in tow and parents never took me up on it. But with the price of parties, I don't know why but it still surprises me that people would even ask. I'd never in a million years, even if I planned on doubling the gift or whatever. Chat Icon

Re: Finally, someone had the ballz

I guess some parents just don't get it!!

It's actually an ongoing issue with one of my son's classmates who just happens to be one of his favorites buddies in the classroom. So I couldn't possibly not invite him. However, everytime he comes to any classmate's birthday party, his older sister and cousin come with him!

Yes, you read it write - cousin. I wish I could say something, I really do, but I just don't have the heart: his sister is severely mentally retarded and his father always brings little containers of baby food to feed her with because I guess she can't chew and swallow regular food. Breaks my heart to see that and I just let it go every time...Chat Icon However, the presence of his perfectly normal and boisterous male cousin is just unexplainable... But what am I gonna say: "you can bring the poor little sick girl but the boy has to stay home?" Chat Icon

So, we all just silently accept it...
