Best BM storage bags?

Hi guys! Crashing from pregnancy.....

Can anyone recommend a good bm storage bag? I will be returning to work less than 3 months after I have the baby, but I am hoping to BF at least up until a year, so I expect that I will need a good freezer stash.

So, for those of you who froze bm, which were your favorite bags? Any suggestions? Thanks for any advice!!

Re: Best BM storage bags?

The lactation consultant I saw suggested that I use the storage bottles as opposed to the storage bags because you are able to get more of the milk out of the bottles. Just thought I would pass it on - my SIL suggested the lansinoh ones, she liked those the best. HTH Chat Icon

I agree the lansinoh were the best. As for storing in bottles, I think the bags make for better storage since you can store them flat, and I saw a woman who stored them in a gift bag with a slit at the bottom so you could slide the oldest milk out the bottom, very cool. I think it was on youtube. Also, I suggest storing in different increments since sometimes you will need to adjust the amounts. I used to freeze in 1 oz, 2 oz, 3 oz, 4 oz, and 5 oz increments.

Re: Best BM storage bags?

I've been using Medela. Pretty much because that's the pump I have and they had the adaptor to connect the bag to it.

For those of you who are using Lansinoh - is it possible to use them with a Medela pump? How does it connect? I like the idea of laying them flat. Right now my whole freezer looks like an army of frozen breast milk bags Chat Icon

I liked the Lansinoh ones the best--I like that they held 6 oz--I believe Medela only held 5 oz.

The bags don't connect. When I'm done pumping into the Medela bottles, I just pour the milk into the bags. Lansinoh bags have a kind of a spout on top, so it's super easy to hold the bag with one hand and pour from the bottle into it with the other.

Yes, very easy to pour with their squeeze spout system. I've poured without spills in the car!

To freeze flat, be sure you have a good seal, getting all the air out (hold one hand with scissor fingers at the top of the milk then slide the other hand with scissor fingers to the top and seal), then lay the bag on a flat surface like on top of a box of pierogies or something. Chat Icon When it's frozen, you can then file them like index cards. I actually got a hand me down breastmilk storage box thing that kept them in a nice straight line so they do sell things. They thaw way faster when you freeze flat too.

So yeah, I highly suggest Lansinoh too!

ITA with the poster above & I also agree with everyone else - I loved the Lansinoh bags the best!
