Spinoff to pumping Q

I plan on EBF, but will need to return to work at 12 weeks. I wasn't going to introduce a bottle until maybe 4 weeks b/c I want to establish a breastfeeding routine. Based on that, I have my gift cards ready and was going to hold off on buying a pump. Now, I'm starting to panic (with 6 days to go, LOL) thinking I should get it this weekend to bring to the hospital in case their is a latching problem. I know I can get one from my ped (they are lactation consultants as well), but does the hospital have one to use? Or would you just go out and get it this weekend?
TIA!

The hospital will have one you can use. why don't you call your insurance and see if they cover a pump. Mine covered 90 percent. I paid 23 dollars in the end.

Oh, and use edgepark medical supply. They take care of everything!

I plan to EBF also but I am getting a pump in case there is an issue. I also read that pumping can help with labor progression, I guess the stimulation? I'm not sure if I'd use it for that but you never know.

Like you, I don't want to introduce a bottle for awhile. I'm going to be staying home so the only time I'll need to pump and bottle feed is if I'm away from the baby and the sitter needs to give a feeding or if DH wants to give the occasional feeding. My goal is to breastfeed 95% of the time. Worst case is it doesn't work out that way and I have to pump for other reasons or more often than I'd like.

I'm getting my pump in advance, I am going to try to get it through my insurance. I don't know about the hospital, you may be able to rent one? I would call and ask. If they can't provide you with one then I would get one just in case. You said you'll be using one eventually anyway.

I am in the same exact situation and I will slowly start introducing formula at 6 weeks before going back to work when our Chat Icon is about 12 weeks. I do not plan on buying a pump at all. You can rent on through the hospital per month and they are the top of the line model.

Yeah my insurance is a no go, unless I am separated from the child, like NICU. So maybe I'll hold off and if the nurses think I need one, I can rent or send mom out to buy.

I would just use one of the hospital pumps while you are there, if you need one. I used the hospital's then rented a hospital grade one when I got home. Then I eventually got a PIS Advanced.

Definitely rent a hospital pump if that is the case! You can always buy the pump and all the accessories once BFing is established.
