THIS IS A HURRICANE!!!!!!!
Who cares if it is downgraded to a tropical storm before it gets here? It still has a lot of energy, rain and wind. She also pushes the ocean in front of her as she moves. That is called storm surge.
Know the difference of a tropical storm and a hurricane? 1 mph.
Do you know how much rain we already have had in the tri-state area BEFORE IRENE? LOTS!!!
Do you know how stable the trees are with relentless wind and rain in an already saturated area? Can you pick which ones may fall? Me neither.
Have you been asked to evacuate? THEN DO IT!
I still bet you that Irene is faster at dumping water than your husband is at pulling it out one bucket at a time.
Will you lose power? Beats me.
Will you flood? Beats me.
Will you lose a tree? Beats me.
But I do know some of you will have one of the above, if not all of the above. This is tri-state wide. You know how many millions of people are dealing with this? Suck it up cupcake. Today is the day. Let's all hope we prepared properly. If so, we will do okay.

A downgrade doesn't relax me much. It's still bad.
But, from what I saw on TWC it's still on track to hit us as a Cat 1, right?

okay let me ask a stupid question at the risk of getting yelled at... but...
i am all the way out east. They only have voluntary evacs right now in low lying areas. I am not one of them.
At this point, if they do mandatory evacs... i'll be stuck in traffic when Irene gets here. So for us all the way out here, i feel like an evacuation would be pointless by the time they called it, no?

Got it. yes if that happens, we'll be going to the police station where my husband works.

I decided to leave last night with my son. It normally takes me 2 1/2 hours------last night it took almost 4 to get here because the amount of traffc and fender benders.

My sister texted me this AM to ask if I was preparing. She was evacuated in Brooklyn. I said, "Nah, just gonna ride it out, no biggie...OF COURSE WE'RE PREPARING YOU IDIOT!!!"
She hasn't texted me back.
