Afraid to swaddle baby... won't he roll sideways?

My baby sleeps well when swaddled, but DH and I are afraid to put him down swaddled b/c he tends to roll sideways.

I'd love to swaddle him and put him in the FP Rock n Play Sleeper or Rest Assured CoSleeper, but I'm afraid he'll roll while we're sleeping. He's been sleeping in the My LittleLamb swing, but wakes easily in that.

What do you do?

I swaddle Lianna and put her in FP Rocker. She us just fine. If your afraid then roll up a receiving blanket and prop it under the side he tends to roll on.

Re: Afraid to swaddle baby... won't he roll sideways?

DD will be 4 month months this week and we JUST put her in the crib. She has slept in the RNP since we brought her home and she has been swaddled ever since. They really can't roll in the sleeper if the are straped in. I am worried about the crib but she on;y rolls on her side right now. As soon as she has more strength I am going to take her arms out. Good Luck

He won't roll -- he's too little. They pretty much stay in the same position you leave him in when swaddled until they learn to roll over, which won't be for a few months.

Think of how in the nursery and NICU the nurses keep all the babies (except some premies) swaddled anytime they are not being fed or changed. It's perfectly safe to swaddle.

I'd like to do this, but I can't figure out how to swaddle him and strap him in.

How do you do this?

my DS only ever slept sideways, my ped said its fine

as for swaddle and strap, just swaddle the arms, let the legs free.

ITA, it is perfectly fine. Sometimes I WISH I could swaddle and leave my 15 month old in a rocker. Chat Icon I really miss those days. Chat Icon

We've just ended swaddling in our house because DD is looking like she is going to start rolling over soon. I'm so sad because swaddling was a GODSEND for us...she could be screaming her head off and the moment that swaddle was on her, it was like a new baby. We even joked she had "swaddle face" with this blank look and slightly open mouth each time we did it.

Re: Afraid to swaddle baby... won't he roll sideways?

DD is about 4 months and I havent strapped her into anything yet....(carseat of course)

They are so little and the R & play sleeper is so deep there is no way he will roll or fall out even unstrapped at this point.

If it makes you feel bettr to strap him in, there is a hole in the back of the swaddlemes that allow you to strap them underneath before wrapping them.

ITA with this! We swaddled my son and he slept in his crib from day 1 and we never had any issues. We only stopped swaddling him around 4.5 months when he was starting to roll over.
