Scan It at Stop & Shop - I Got Audited
I remember a recent post asking about Scan It, so I thought I'd share my experience since I got audited today 
The cashier kept apologizing and saying it's done at random to make sure the scanning system works. I asked her if it's to prevent theft and she didn't say anything to me. A different person came and took my scanner to a back room. She then came back out to the register and randomly scanned 7 items in my cart to see if it matched my list. Then I went on paying as usual.

This has happened a few times to DH and I when we go shopping. It is for theft prevention. The customer service person who did our order said often times people get audited and say, "Well there's a couple of things I forgot to scan." They pick a few random things, scan them, and that was it. They didn't take our scanner to a back room though, so maybe this is new.

I was audited once. Never took the cart away from me, just did it at the register.

WOW!!! it was me!!!! I was the one that asked!!!
Ok NOW it makes sense to me! BC I couldnt figure out how this scan it thing would work. Auditing explains it to me!!

Love the scan it yourself! I was audited also once. They did it right there at the register. I am sure this was tested out in a few areas WAY before it came to stores. Stop and Shop must be very confident that this system works and they will not lose $ or they would never have done it in stores. JMO.

This happened to me twice. They took random things in my cart to confirm we scanned them.

I've been audited a few times. They usually take the scanner to someone else who comes and grabs a few items. It usually only take a few seconds.

I seem to get audited monthly. They've never left to go to the back room though.

It's funny I get audited 9 out of 10 times. I believe it's because I'm buying a lot of baby items. I used to work at kmart when I was in high school and mothers would steal all the time! So I know they watch out for us specifically. Also the cashier told me it was every 5 people. Who knows. It's just odd it happens all the time to me! But I'm honest!

I've been audited a number of times. (I go food shopping at least once a week at S&S.) It was like you stated, they took the scanner and had to randomly scan 7 items. No biggy.

I've had it done too... no big deal.
I'll take a random audit a few times a year to keep the convenience of using the scanners.

I must be on a "list" or something because I seem to get audited every single time I use the Scan It. They never had to take the scanner to a back room or anything though. Doesn't bother me at all unless I'm in a rush.

Woah! I'm a big Scan It user and I have yet to be audited! I definitely wouldn't be opposed though, especially if it helps to keep Scan It in place because I looove it!
A woman was asking me about Scan It once, and she uncomfortably asked "Well....couldn't you just not scan things and bag them? Or scan cheaper things??" I told her "I guess they just hope those using the system are good, honest people." Seemed like such a shady thing to ask.

they always do it right in front of me
i usually go to the self checkout line and the people behind hate when this happens. oh well

I have gotten audited more than once-usually it happens if I "return" things as I am shopping. I have a budget and if I go too over it I will return things that I don't really need to stay within my price range.
