Eh - as PPs have said, I can think of worse places for children to be.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

I see nothing wrong with it, BUT my kids stood next to me in my kitchen and watched me get their names tattooed on my hip. They were 5 and 6 at the time.

I personally don't think they belong. Some of the sketches are xxx

I know the place I had mine done does not allow any kids under a certain age even in the establishment. Not even by the front door.

I don't see a big deal with bringing her child. Kids see worse things in music videos and the tv. I am not too worried about pictures on the walls. lol

If you are worried about influence, I believe that parents have the sole responsibility and I really hate the shared blame these days. When my daughters grow up and they are misbehaved, don't do well in school, and are out late at night drinking it will be my fault and hers. NOt others. Not the teachers, not the tv, not because she walked into a bar or tattoo parlor, ect. If you don't want your kid in that scene fine, you make the decision for your kids alone. jmo

What are you even talking about-no one said anything about shared blame and not doing well in school because the kid saw mommy getting a tatoo.

Seeing triple x rated images is a potential and honestly, that's not something I want my kid exposed to so I minimize it where I can. That doesn't mean I will blame everyone else if my kid drops out of school when they are 11Chat Icon

Plus, like everyone else said-they could be a distraction to the artist, other people might not be comfortable with them there, yada yada yada.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

just a thought -- but if we're talking about an actual tattoo parlor:

if you want to take the kid with you to see you get the tattoo done (for whatever reason)

you PROBABLY should have already been in there before (to consult with the artist unless you're an idiot just walking in blindly lol) so you'd know if there was anything lewd on the walls.

Am I being too conservative in my thinking that I'm appalled that one of my co-workers brought her 4 year old with her while she went to get a tattoo?? She tried to Justify it by saying that she didn't go to a tattoo parlor, her friend does it out of his house. I kept my mouth shut but REALLY?? Am I being too bold by saying What is wrong with our society today ?? Is it me??

I realized I got too caught up in what others were saying and never answered the OP.
In my opinion, Yes you are being conservative in being appalled that a co-worker brought her child to a friends house while she got a tattoo there. But maybe that's the kind of person you are..and that's ok.
I don't see it as any of your business though, or something to be appalled at. And certainly not a sign that society is going down the tubes (people being beaten in mcdonalds while no one does anything is a better example of that)

Hope that answers your question Chat Icon

I dont think its a big deal. I definitely think there is worse places for children to be and a tatto parlor is not one of them. And also since this was done at your coworkers friends house then its even more private and wouldnt even count this as a tattoo parlor. I mean if she brought the child in a tattoo parlor while theres someone else getting a tattoo and they are screaming vulgar words bc of the pain then yeah I can see it being a little inappropriate for a child to be in THAT environment lol. But i think that instance is very few and far between.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

I would not bring my children to a tattoo parlor.

I want them to know I am no way comfortable with the idea of them and tattoos. I am not a fan at all...and dh well..at 16 he tatoo'ed a naked couple having sex on his stomach.
lovely to look at for a lifetime.

I'm just trying to make a point that "we" (and i dont have children either) dont let children be children, yet its ok to take them to "adult"places....

I would be pretty surprised to see a kid at a tattoo parlor. However, my SIL is a tattoo artist and lives OOS. I can see us going to visit her at work and bringing DD.

I agree, ... unfortunately things have changed so much since Lisa and I were children (we are close to the same age), children are not told to just "go out and play"..between safety concerns, busy lives, technology, life styles have changed, it kind of makes me sad.

I agree also - children should not be in "adult" places - like I wouldn't take a child to a bar..like a regular bar. We have gone to nice restaurants and waited in the bar "area", that's a different thing. As far as the tattoo parlor - as I said in a pp, it's more of a safety issue for me - the child's and the other patrons.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

Not a place for children. However the op stated it was at someone house. Completely different than a shop and how that person feels about it I haven't a clue.

However as a tattoo shop manager/tattooer I can tell you first hand it is SRONGLY frowned upon. A tattoo parlor is for people aged 18+. It's simply not a place for children.
I could tell you countless stories of why it's a bad idea and I can also tell you sure, I have also seen some well behaved children there as well but unfortunately the poorly behaved kids outweigh the good. Even when they aren't being "bad" necassarily. Often they need much attention and it is a distraction for the parent getting a tattoo as well as the other paying clients.

Please in te future, if this idea ever crosses your mind... Get a babysitter. Even if you see morbid wrong with it just remember it is just not something we want in a shop and please be respectful to this. It is just in poor taste.

I ddin't say that , but a bar isn't an appropriate place for them to be and I feel neither is a tattoo parlor ..I guess its just me

Ive brought my kid to a bar PLENTY of times. Still do. one of our favorite places to eat is a neighborhood pub. If it's not "thirsty thursdays" or "two fer tuesdays" complete with a wet t shirt contest, whats the big deal?

yes they are. Maybe not at 5 or 6 but at 5 or 6 I didn't roam the neighborhood on my own without my parents...

my kid walks around our neighborhood in brooklyn by himself and he just turned 11. NEXT year he'll be taking the subway to school Chat Icon

He's been allowed to the playground alone (with friends- no adults) since he was almost 9.

I wouldn't take mine to one out of pure safety reasons (my children would think it's so cool, especially being that so many family and friends have tats! lol) but how is that any different from someone smoking or drinking of front of their child?

you wouldn't bring your 4 year old into a bar would you ?

Again ..maybe I'm just more conservative in my thinking.

You dont have to be in a bar to drink or smoke in front of a child...

i really dont see a problem with them being there...

Nor do I. And I actually was in a bar many times as a kid. Hell, we had Irish step dancing classes in the bar!

Its interesting because it really depends on what culture you were brought up in...

ask ANY fireman's daughter...

kid in a bar, not a big deal.
