Toddler bed at eighteen months

I am losing my mind. Dd will get out of her crib and sometimes she will sit on the top bar. I was trying to wait a little bit longer, but it's just not safe. Does anyone have any advice on the transition. I think this may be stressfulChat Icon

Re: Toddler bed at eighteen months

we transitioned DS at 16months and he did fine. although the only problem now is that he'll get up and walk to our room at night.

advice: we got a smaller bed from walmart ($55) and i love it. this way if he ever fell off it was close enough to the floor. he hasn't fallen yet and it's been 9months.
we set up the bed and he helped me make it and i gave him the choice to sleep in his big boy bed or his crib. i guess i'm lucky because he wanted to sleep in his bed. for about the next 2months though he'd nap in his crib. my MIL babysits and she was too nervous that he'd fall out on her.

so may be by me giving him the choice and not forcing made the transition easy...i'm not sure Chat Icon try it and see...for some reason they like to think they made the decision.

good luck!

ETA: we transitioned so early because DS#2 was born and needed a crib and i wasn't buying another crib...they share a room too.

Re: Toddler bed at eighteen months

ds was 13 months, twin, on a platform with rails....

he did great.. slept so well

DD was 8 months old, twin, on the floor, a year we put a box spring with rails. and at 15-16 months it went onto a frame with rails.

for the most part she sleeps from 9:30pm - 8am.. we have some nights she will get up and come to our room.. but its occasionally.

we started with naps first and took the crib apart

Ds has been in a toddler bed since 14 months I just did it one night. We had some issues with getting up In the middle of the night but after a week he stopped and has been doing great since. I don't have much advice just and experience. Good luck

That kid is staying in that crib for as long as humanly possible !!
He'll be 2 when the next baby comes, and I don't care - the second baby is getting a new crib -

Re: Toddler bed at eighteen months

We put DD #2 in a toddler bed at 18 months because she started climbing out and we couldn't use the crib tent with her style of crib. She did fine from the beginning. She slept her same hours and actually puts herself to sleep when she is tired. She has fallen out a few times, but its not far off the ground (its really just her crib without the front rail on it). I really only moved her out because she was jumping out at night. My first DD stayed in the crib until she was almost 3 and I realized that all her friends were in beds and she wasn't and she noticed it!

I put my son in a toddler bed @ 1year. He just hated the crib and never slept in it. I put a small gate up on the door (with it open) more so because I worried about the stairs, but it kept him in his bed. I didn't go to a regular bed w/ bed rails until about 2

Same. DS isn't coming out of the crib until he is potty trained.
