Third Seating in Minivan vs. SUV

I know a lot of people buy minivans and SUVs for the benefit of the third row. DH and I might be joining you. Is the third row just for kids and smaller adults (say, under five feet) or are there vehicles out there that can accomodate adults in the third row?

Re: Third Seating in Minivan vs. SUV

we have a pacifica and 2 adults fit comfortably in the 3rd row. there isn't much storage behind the 3rd row though. i believe most vans have the trunk carve-out so there's more storage space

we have the highlander and 2 adults can fit comfortably in the third row. the third row is just closer to the floor so the knees are bent more.

I have put 3 adults in the 3rd row of my Pilot, but there is minimal trunk space when I use the third row.

I have a Buick Enclave with 3rd row and it's a complete, full size 3rd row. Plenty of room for adults. Great leg room (second row captains chair can slide forward) and great head room. I have been in 3rd rows where I felt claustrophobic and felt like I'd be a goner if we were hit from behind.

Re: Third Seating in Minivan vs. SUV

I suggest you look at trunk space once the 3rd row in up. Some vehicles (both SUV and Minivan) have a smaller trunk space vs. others.

We have a VERY small minivan that does not look like minivan.

There is about 14 inches of trunk left (or it looks like it!) if I have the 3rd row up.

I have the Town and Country. I have fit two adults back there with no problem. Decent trunk space too!

I have had 6 full grown adults in my mini van. One of them all the way in the back who is over 6 feet tall and weighs 260 pounds. And he had leg room. Also have had 5 adults and 4 large suitcases and carry on bags in my mini van. There is a pretty good amount of room in the trunk are even with the 3rd row in use. It is deep when the seats are being used..We have a Dodge Grand Caravan...

My best friend has a Chevy Trailblazer with the 3rd row and it is a PITA to get people in and out of the seats. Also they don't have much room in the trunk are when the seats are being used...That is why I am usually the one taking them to the airport. (5 adults and luggage in my van comment)

I have an Acura MDX and the third row is fine for adults for short drives. There's enough space left in the back for my stroller.

I have a Murano but we have already decided I get a Town & Country next. I always said never ever would I drive a minivan, and now I cannot wait. I think it will be so convenient, and so much cheaper! I think the kids will love it too. I grew up with regular vans (my parents were hippies) and loved it as a kid. I accidentally had a rental minivan twice and each time, I was amazed at how much I liked it--and the first time was prekids (though I had 2 dogs)

Re: Third Seating in Minivan vs. SUV

I have a Chevy Tahoe. The 2nd row is 2 captain seats, and the 3rd row is a bench. We've sat 7 people in there comfortably. not too much trunk space with the 3rd down, but still roomy for everyone

I have an Enclave too. LOVE it! With the 3rd row up, there is still decent space. I can fit my Bug on it's side not laying down.

We have an MDX and 2 adults can fit in the 3rd row, although there's not a whole lot of room back there for them and then minimal space behind the 3rd row.

Re: Third Seating in Minivan vs. SUV

Honestly, we have been car shopping for the last 3 months and I SWORE I would NEVER drive a minivan...guess what we got...a Honda Odyssey! The reason, all 3rd row SUV's had virtually no trunk space when the 3rd row was occupied...we only have one child now, but are planning on having another right away! I absolutely LOVE the van and know in my heart I made the right decision. Although it may not be the "cool suv", it's practical and suits my needs for now...we got black and got it fully loaded so I didn't feel that bad about driving one! LOL
