Re: Just started panicking about how you go food shopping...
I am so nervous about what I'm going to do!! But the baby will have to go to daycare at 3 months, so I think I'll have to take him/her out earlier so that the first exposure to people isn't there

Re: Just started panicking about how you go food shopping...
DC #1 was born in December..I took the baby out by 1 week old. By 4 weeks we were at the mall.
My ped was fine with this. She said if I stayed in I would go nuts. Just dont let people touch the baby, and dont go to a friends house etc where I knwo someone is ill. And of course wash hands/sanitize! DC didnt get first cold until 9 months old!

Either DH went with the list I gave him and I stayed with the kids or vice versa. You can also do pea pod.

Re: Just started panicking about how you go food shopping...
I had preemie NICU twins born in late Nov and they were out and about at 2 weeks. We kept them covered with a blanket. As far as logistics-get yourself a nice stroller with a big basket. I have shopped with both boys from the very beginning.

I was thinking about doing Fresh Direct. I heard the prices are comparable and they have some things that are cheaper. Also they have a coupon code for free shipping for your first four or so orders.

Re: Just started panicking about how you go food shopping...
I think most doctors will advise you to wait atleast 6-8 weeks BUT honestly it's up to you. I personsally waited 6 weeks w/ both DC but I could.

Re: Just started panicking about how you go food shopping...
I have thought about these same issues but I've been told that it's perfectly safe to take the baby out in the beginning as they have their strongest immunity in their first 8 weeks and I've never thought to myself that I would wait a few months before heading outside... But if it really makes you nervous, when I worked full time I used to have Waldbaums deliver and I've tried peapod too... their a great alternative and have really fresh produce I noticed.

Re: Just started panicking about how you go food shopping...
My ped said babies shouldn't live in bubbles. It's just important to not let people directly breath on the newborn and if they want to give kisses they should kiss the feet.
I followed this with my first DC. We were in the supermarket the first time by the time DC was 6 weeks old.

Re: Just started panicking about how you go food shopping...
My doctor told me not to take baby to public places (especially food stores) for 8 weeks. I kept to it, a couple times we had to.
It's a PIA in the beginning. But you get used to it. dressed/changed/fed load into car seat walk out door/lock door load into car drive to food store. take her out, get out snap & go. food shop. load back up. lock car seat. get her out into house. packages.
Most days I said "eff it" and waited for DH to get home. We always do big food shopping together anyway.
I missed the days of Get in car & go.
But now it's second nature.

Re: Just started panicking about how you go food shopping...
DS was born in Feb and the ped. advised waiting at least 2 months b/c of flu season, etc. I listened, although went 1-2 times to Staqrbucks, I had to get out. But I think they kinda scare you and it would have been fine. As for food shopping, I'm just now going with him b/c he can sit up in the cart thing and he's 6 months.

Re: Just started panicking about how you go food shopping...
Peapod!!!!
I did a HUGE peapod order before DD was born (she was a Feb baby) and then did peapod after when needed.
For in between large shopping trips, either DH would stop at the store or I would take DD out in the snap and go, kept her covered and did a quick shop for whatever I could fit in the snap and go basket.
