Question for the BTDT moms reagarding estimating baby's weight

Hi-
I just got home from my growth sono at 34 weeks. My doctor said the baby is measuring 5lbs 6 oz.

How accurate was the estimation during your pregnancy?

at my growth sono the baby was weighing in at 6lbs 2ozs. the dr estimated that his birth weight would be 7.5lbs. he came in just under 7lbs at 6lbs 15.8ozs.

Re: Question for the BTDT moms reagarding estimating baby's weight

I had a growth sono on Sat (1 day after my due date and they said 8lbs. 2oz.) DD was born via c-section on Thursday and she was 8lbs. 7oz.

So I would say it was pretty accurate.

for me - not at all accurate.

the DAY i was induced - i was at the OB (i was sent into L&D because i had low fluid) and they told me 10 pounds, something ounces.

Emma came out the next night at 8 pounds, 2 ounces...so unless she was in there doing aerobics - they were WAY off!

Re: Question for the BTDT moms reagarding estimating baby's weight

Totally Completely off. They wouldn't let me go one day over my due date because they were worried my DD would be too big (the growth sono had her over 8 LBS. Well I had her two days early and she was a skinny little thing at 7.02lbs.

Thr Dr. told me my son would be a little over 8lbs. I was induced 3 days past my due date and my son weighed 7lbs 7oz.

For both my kids the techs at Madonna were dead on. Well with dd dead on and with ds they were within a half a pound.

Both my sonos were very accurate - right on. A lot of it depends on how many you have had, the skill of the tech/doctor etc. If done correctly they should be a +1/-1 lb of accuracy. But it isn't unusual to hear of it being 2 lbs off.

I had one while in the hospital with p/g complications and they said 10lbs, my Dr thought no way. He made made me leave the hospital and go to Madonna to have the Dr there do it. He said, 10lbs 3oz if I went to my due date. 9lbs 3oz if I stuck with my scheduled c/s 2 weeks early. WELL, she was exactly 9lbs 3oz. I had it done at 31 weeks. So for me accurate but even my Dr said, it really depends on the tech.

Re: Question for the BTDT moms reagarding estimating baby's weight

My Dr estimated DS to be about 9.5 lbs. This was based on a growth sono at 32w (~6.5lbs) and another at 36w (~8.25lbs). DS was born at exactly 40w at 9lbs 10oz, so pretty accurate for me.

Re: Question for the BTDT moms reagarding estimating baby's weight

Mine was either way off or the baby did not grow in the last 4 weeks. That may have been the case, though, as I had blood clots on the placenta which could have impeded his growth. My son was very small for his gestational age.

The day before I had my son I had a growth sono and they said he was 9 lbs 7 oz. They were going to induce me the following day but I went into labor on my own that night. He weighed 8 lbs 7 oz.

Re: Question for the BTDT moms reagarding estimating baby's weight

I was told my baby would be definitely 10lbs. She was born 10 days early 8lbs 11oz so who knows if she would have gained that extra lb or not if she was born at or after her due date. It's all a guessing game.

Re: Question for the BTDT moms reagarding estimating baby's weight

They were pretty much perfect.

With Ryan, at 32wks I was told if I went full term he'd be high 7's/low 8's. He was born 10 days early at 7lb8oz.

With Colin, at exactly 6wks before I delivered, he was 5lb2oz. They usually say 1/2 lb a wk so that's 3lbs. He was 8lbs 2oz at birth - 9 days early - right on the $$.

Re: Question for the BTDT moms reagarding estimating baby's weight

I dont remember what they estimated DS to be in the weeks leading up to him being born. But I had my 39 week appt the morning of the day he was born, they estimated 8.7, he was born 12 hours later weighing 8.7.
