It SHOULD - however, we lost a twin at 10wks after seeing the heartbeat twice (at 6 and 7wks). Chat Icon

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer at all, but i totally thought we were in the clear...

I have to agree with Nicole...Unfortunately my SIL just had a miscarriage this past weekend after seeing the baby's HB on 3/10...She was just 10w

Yes, once you see the heartbeat the risk goes down. It goes down again after the first trimester. It doesn't mean it can't happen, just numbers speaking the risk goes down.

It's a positive - no doubt BUT pregnancy is fragile therefore you have to really take care of yourself throughout. I had a M/C at 9 weeks and then another at 15 weeks due to a tubal defect.

I do have two healthy boys as well and a baby on the way.

Unfortunately same here. Saw a heartbeat at 6+3, but miscarried at 11 weeks last year.

It's more about the gestation, really - ie your mc risk is less if you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks rather than 6. This time around, I waited until 8 weeks for a sono. We saw a heartbeat and the sonographer said at that point, the rate of miscarriage dropped to about 2%

Re: If you see the heartbeat?

They say the risk goes down ALOT, but I lost my first baby at 8 weeks after seeing the heartbeat the day before.

If you are too nervous to tell him don't. But just remember, telling people won't make you m/c. Usually it's a chromosomal defect which is completely out of our hands. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: If you see the heartbeat?

It's great to see the heartbeat but it doesn't mean too much. Unfortunately, mnay people I know have had problems but it doens't mean it'll be you. Once you're into your 2nd trimester or close to it you might feel a little more sense of relief. Don't stress!

exactly what my doctor said, your risk of MC goes down significantly after seeing and hearing the HB
