Some driving observations from a Long Islander living in Queens...

Geriatric Drivers apparently lose the turning abilities of their necks. They only look straight ahead. This makes me have to pay attention to not only my driving but to theirs as well, for I do not know if they see me. Do their peripheral capabilities intensify with the loss of their necks?

Unlike Geriatric Drivers, Diva Drivers do not see AT ALL. Therefore, if they want to turn, they will indeed turn. Their lack of eye sight means they don't care if you are coming at them at 30 or 60 mph. If they want to take their time pulling into a parking lot, they will.

Unlike Diva Drivers, Prima Dons DO see. Just not the road ahead of them. Rather, they see the beauty in all things around them. Like the auto body shop, dunkin donuts and pretty young hoochies walking the street.

Then there are the Newbies. Nice people, I'm certain, who just don't understand the roads of Queens. That's okay...took me some time, too. But now move your automobile out of the way so that I can go. You see, it may LOOK like a single lane, but there are invisible dashes that only Queens drivers can see which means two cars can fit quite nicely together in the lane. Oh no, the Queens Dept of Transportation was NOT thinking ahead of all the wide cars. They designed lanes to be wide. Which means, dear Newbie, that we Queens drivers like to live on the edge and see justhowclose we can get to each other. Again, please move.

Then there is my favorite species of all. The 'Roid Drivers. They look at cars and people like lawns that need to be mowed. Grannies? Mommies with carriages? 10 points for each. Cars? Oh, those don't exist in 'Roid World...only their own cars exist.


Oh yes, all in my 2 mile drive to Target.

You forgot to mention the buses! When they pull out they don't look and it is almost like they are trying to smash you!

Oh yes...Bussus Corpus. Those mirrors on the side? Just a facade. They don't actually reflect that their is a car RIGHT NEXT TO THEM!!!

LOL i learned to drive in Queens and I STILL dont get the imaginary two lane streets.

Haha..I know the drive you're talking about and let me tell you..

I'd take that ANY DAY over some of the parking lots out here on LI...

...between the ssslllloooowww geriatrics who cut you off only to go 5 mph to the triple parkers who might as well park since their triple parking spot is NEXT TO an empty spot...

To me, driving in Manhattan during rush hour is less of a challenge than driving out here sometimes...sheesh....I thought life with parking lots would be a relief..haha...

My favorite was the NASCAR wannabe...the person weaving in and out of traffic using excessive speed. They like to come out during rush hour to keep everyone else on their toes.
