Re: I'm tired of the judgment!

This is your child and I glad that you are feeding her healthy meals. I am kind of a fanatic about what my son eats as well. I dont like him having sweets, fast foods or anything of that sort at all. People sometimes frown upon me for that. But who gives a flack. Its my child and you have no say in what I do with them. So good for you mommy. Chat Icon Chat Icon

If we're at a party, yes, I"ll let her have some treats, but I'll always push the healthier ones first, and I limit her intake. So, if she wants a juice box, I'll give her one, but when I give it to her, I tell her, only one, when you're done, that's it. That helps her accept it a little better.

And if we're at a party, I choose the healthier items for myself, like veggies, or fruit. Invariably she wants to mimic me and eat what I'm eating...

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Good for you! I wish DD and DS would eat a little healthier. Luckily they both love fruit. Somebody gave Christopher SODA at his birthday party and I flipped out a bit and everybody was looking at me like I had 3 heads. Oh well, let them think I'm crazy!

Beth, tell them to shove a lollipop...well, you know Chat Icon

Bella doesn't eat as awesome as Alex does ( I WISH she would eat tilapia) but her first instinct is fruit and we push that. Now that my sister babysits her, she gets more sugarChat Icon Chat Icon and actually KNOWS what soda is.
I am happy to say though she will eat a whole bowl of tomatoes, a big bowl of blueberries, but when we make cookies, she will leave at least about half on the plate and be done.

Alex will be better off because of her great eating habits.

Those eating habbits will follow her for the rest of her life. My mother always fed me fruits and veggies since the moment the pediatrician said it was ok. I am probably one of the very few people in the world that actually LOVE lima beans. It' good to start when they are young getting into a good habbit with food because when they get older and it comes time to making a decision on what to put in their tummy they will make the better and healthier choice.

We limit sugar too. We have to, if we don't he's extremely hyper. My answer is always, if you want to give it to him, than he's sleeping over at your house - people usually back off.

Alex is the only child I know who will sit down for dinner, will eat grilled tilapia, with whole wheat couscous and grilled veggies. Happily!

Re: I'm tired of the judgment!

Don't listen to people.

Even the Ped looked at me funny when I told me DS was not drinking juice or eating icecream.

To each his own and I don't judge what other people are doing.

So like you... DC does not "suffer" because he does not have sweets.

Re: I'm tired of the judgment!

I hope I have the discipline to impose the same rules on DS (but I doubt it since I don't follow that kind of diet for myself Chat Icon ). Bottom line is you are doing what you think is best for your child - no one else's business - period!Chat Icon

Re: I'm tired of the judgment!

In this world you are crucified if you do and crucified if you don't. Don't feel alone in this, no matter what decisions you make for your child there are always people there judging and criticizing. Whether it be sleep habits, eating habits, child care preferences, potty training, TV or choice of diapers for heavens sake..... we moms always get bombarded with unwanted, unnecessary advice and it is sometimes down right mean.

We all feel your pain, but as moms, who know whats best for our children we have the ability and the responsability to do whats right for them and that might just be the complete opposite from what the mom next door does, but so what.

Re: I'm tired of the judgment!

What you are doing for her now is not only healthy for her body, but will ensure she never has to go through the misery and dificulty of 'dieting' as a teenager/adult - She won't have to deal with being overweight and unhappy -

My Mom had the WORST eating habits although she was always thin - b/c she'd purge on junk and then starve herself for a few weeks to lose her weight - ........My sister and I both picked up her terrible habits, and just like her now have to struggle to keep our weight in check. - It's awful.

When you're taught to enjoy 'junk' as a kid, it's SO hard to breat that mind-set.

Re: I'm tired of the judgment!

The judgment must stress you out! I commend you not only for sticking to your guns and being persistent and consistent with your beautiful daughter, but also for dealing with outside pressures. You are a great mom who cares about not just the here and now, but also your daughter's future. You are an inspiration! Re: I'm tired of the judgment!

You are doing a great job!

We get comments like that all the time! When my DD goes to my inlaw's house and asks for broccoli instead of chips they look at her like she has 3 heads.

I don't see why people have a problem with it. My children are establishing healthy eating habits. And its by choice, its not like they're crying in a corner because I won't allow them to have a piece of cake.

Awesome for you!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
I alreadky know that when DS eats, it's gonna be stuff thatI eat, that's the way my parents raised me, and I eat everything!!! (sometimes that's my problem though)

My kids will not eat from the kids menu of crap, they will eat healthy adult options, just as I did.

i was the 5 year old ordering king crab legs and eating the entire plate while the people sitting next to us watched in awe.
Yes, it's a little different than what you are doing which is VERY healthy, and I hope to do the same, I just loathe chicken fingers, pizza and mac n cheese for my kids, why should those be his only options?
My son is the only kid in his class that drinks water....the ONLY ONE!!!!

I was amazed....

This is not to offend anyone on here who feeds their child chix fingers and pizza, but I just want my kids exposed to all different kinds of foods so they will grow up not saying "ew" to everything, another of my pet peeves.

Good job Beth!!!!!
