maybe I'm being unreasonable....

but DH and I just got into a fight b/c I've been wanting new bedroom furniture now for the past 5 years (we have broken hand me downs that we got for free and it's UGLY). I ask him to go look since there are sales (and he mentioned just the other day that we could go look) and he got all p!ssy and said, well, you're going to kill me but I think our furniture isn't that bad! Perhaps at the end of the summer we'll start looking! Chat Icon

I just feel that it's always on his terms and never mine. I feel like a little kid asking her mommy for icecream and her telling me no. At the end of the school year he showed me our bank acct. (I never check as I am bad with money) and it was double what we thought..... so we can afford new furniture with out a doubt. Plus, next school year (sept) he and I are getting nice raises.

I am just agrivated about feeling like a kid.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Lora, I know how you feel. DH is the same way. I am finally getting to a point that I tell him if you dont go and get it or something like that I will. He just tells me i dont understand. Its sad to say but I sometimes wish I married someone that makes more money than a teacher makes ( we are both teachers too)

Re: maybe I'm being unreasonable....

Maybe take a different approach. Instead of asking him to go look, find 2 or 3 that you love that are reasonably priced and then pull them up on-line or print them out and ask him to help you choose which one you're GOING to buy. Don't give him enough room to get out of a decision. If he pulls the "I can't decide" or "I don't know" then tell him he loses his right to complain if he doesn't like the one you get. HTHChat Icon

Chat Icon I love it!

Shari- Don't you HATE when people say teachers make too much? It's so hard for us to afford anything on LI. Chat Icon

I feel your pain......I wanted a new set for 6 years, and I finally said we should start looking because we were having twins an needed to move our master bedroom upstairs into a bigger room, and he finally caved in.
We have the furniture on a payment plan...with no interest for 2 years.Chat Icon

Personally, I would just go out and buy it and have it delivered.

Re: maybe I'm being unreasonable....

I dont think you are being unreasonable...but I can totally RELATE!

Just recently, I asked DH if we could get a new fridge. All of our other appliances are new when we did the kitchen over with the exception of the fridge which is about 5 yrs old, makes funny noises when you close it, doesnt have the water and icemaker, and is just too small. So I keep asking, honey we need a new fridge, and he says yah, yah, end of summer. However, we too have lots of savings and we can afford to buy this one important appliacne now, especially since Sears is having major sales.

Would you really just order it w/o telling him? I think my DH would be aggravated if I did that, but I know which model I want. I've already done research!

Re: maybe I'm being unreasonable....

Is your husband putting this off because he is nervous about finances or about your jobs or the cost of the baby?

I would talk to him. I think it is fair that as an ADULT this is a joint decision and not his sole decision. I don't think a husband turn into a parent.

Also you might want to start playing more of a role in the fiances so that you always have a clear understand of what is going on. He may be treating you this way because in his mind you are "bad with money" and therefore cannot make sound financial decisions.
