Need something to do on Thursday with 4 kids under age 5...
preferably on the south shore of LI, in Nassau County.
My best friend is here on LI visiting (she lives in FL) and she is here with her 2 kids (ages 5 and 3). Add my two kids to the mix (ages 3 and 1), we are looking for something to do Thursday morning/afternoon.
She is staying in East Rockaway, so the surrounding towns would be Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, Oceanside, Island Park, Long Beach, etc.
I am taking a Suburban, we are all hopping in, and I need a place to go! I'd be willing to pay for something if its reasonable and appropriate for the ages of the kids. The only place I want to avoid is the beach. I'm not a fan and my kids don't need to be in the sun all day if they don't have to. A park is fine, maybe we can do a picnic lunch. Would also consider finding a place to go to lunch, kid friendly of course.

What about the Children's Museum for 3 and 5 yr olds it'd be a hit. It's not S. Shore but not far either and not too too expensive.

or if you prefer outdoor, Bay Park has a super playground and it's on the water so there's a nice walking area and you could picnic also.

Too funny, we both grew up in East Rockaway, so that was our old stomping grounds. We've been friends for 30 years now!

Call a nanny and go to the spa!!
I don't know those areas well but you could always travel to Old Bethpage Restoration Village.

I haven't been yet, but I keep wanting to check out Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center It's supposed to be about 75 on Thursday, so it might be a nice day to walk the boardwalk too.
We saw Big Apple Circus on Sunday at CW Post. I know it's not south shore, but both kids thought it was fun. Get the cheapest tix, it's a small tent. THe only animal acts were dogs & horses, but a lot of physical comedy from the clowns which had all the kids laughing.

thanks for all your suggestions! I was trying to stay on south shore, because I live on north shore, I am driving 40 minutes south to pick them up, and then will have to drop them back off, so I don't want to come back up north if I don't have to. She doesn't have a car, so I am doing all the driving. We did WPF last year when they were here and it was just too much driving...

I was going to suggest the Big Apple Circus, too. We're going tomorrow (there's 22 of us all together  ). Should be fun!
