Our church doesn't "ask" for anything. They leave it up to us and what we wish to give or can afford. All donations from christenings from our church go to a shelter to help abused women and children in Hartford.
ETA: We gave $25, we couldn't do any more.

Wow, it is much less than I thought. We had to make a "donation" of $650 at the church we got married at last year. I thought it would at least be half of that.
