Thank You Letter to Joseph's teacher

Just thought I'd post it in case anyone needed something similar for their teachers in the future. Obviously tailor it to your childChat Icon

Dear Mrs. W----,
I think everyone has a teacher that reached out to them during their school years. The teacher that made the difference in their lives. Joseph has had so many amazing teachers at (name of school), but none have touched him like you have. You are that person for my child. You will be the one that he will look back as an adult and think “she made me believe in myself”.

Joseph went from being sent to the principal’s office at least twice a month to not seeing him for almost the whole year. While the credit goes to Joseph for stepping up to the plate, you were the one that gave him the confidence in school that he was capable of doing well and helped him turn that corner.

You truly understand him in so many ways. The way you brought your own experiences in school and the struggles you faced helped him to see that he can succeed. He strived to control his impulses and excel academically.

Your patience, whether it was dealing with his “writer’s block” or his poutiness that he already knew everything that was being taught, was incredible. You even reached out to him when you notice his discomfort over his inability to pay attention and devised a signal for him so he wasn’t embarrassed.

Joseph sees you as a real role model, and we can see why. Your approach is the perfect mix of firmness and understanding.

As the school year wraps up, I feel confident that Joseph is ready for fourth grade-both socially and academically-thanks largely to your efforts.

Thanks again for everything, and have a restful summer & a wonderful honeymoon. You deserve it!

Yours truly,
Mr. & Mrs G

Wow. Barb.. I'm not his teacher and that made ME tear up.

Also crashing - former teacher here, and ITA. I know I've saved letters from parents. They mean so much to me, even though I'm not teaching anymore. Your letter is beautiful and touching, and I'm sure his teacher will be very happy to know she made such a difference in your lives.

Re: Thank You Letter to Joseph's teacher

I haven't been a teacher in 10 years, but I still have the photos, cards and notes my students gave me.

Good for you for writing it. My DH is 49 and still talks about his second grade teacher in the way you describe Joseph's teacher. I wonder if she ever received notes like yours.
