Where any of you 35 plus years old when pg? Did you have an amnio?

I am 35, I haven't really thought much about it until Dr. brought it up. I am probably going to have all of the non-invasive tests done, but that's about it.

Ava is 3 1/2, I didn't have a nt test or genetic counseling back then.

I was over 35. I decided not to have an amnio since I had very good results from my Ultrascreen. I was on the fence about it, but after the ultrascreen, I decided not to have it.

I am 36 and will be when baby is born in May.

I did all the non evasive tests--- all tests came back normal so we decided not to do the amnio....

I personally did not want to do an amnio unless it was necessary.

Yes, and yes.

Both DH and I felt that it was the best decision for us because of our ages.

I didn't because the rest of the results were good (AFP test, sonos).

Now that I know we have a genetic issue in the family, I would opt for a CVS test in the 10th week.

I'm 35 and 27 weeks preggo now. I did not have an amino.

My OB said that the recommendation for an amnio because you are 35 is a bit antiquated. She did highly recommend all the non invasive tests and if the results came back questionable or negative then would recommend the amnio.

Thankfully all the non-invasive tests came back fine so I skipped it.

I was 36 and did not have an amnio because the doctor said that all the other test results were good and unless I wanted it, I didn't need to have it done.

40 - other test results were great so no amnio.

I probably wouldn't have had it anyway.

I was actually 34 with Caden but I have a child with Down Syndrome so they always suggest that I have an amnio...I chose to play it by ear and do the non invasive testing first and then take it from there. We were so happy with the Ultrascreen and AFP results we decided againest the amnio.

I was over 35 when I was pregnant. We were unable to complete the ultrascreen because my baby didn't cooperate with his positioning. I was on the fence but then I did have an amnio. It is a very tough decision.

As someone who was offered an amnio and "under" age 35...I agree that age is only part of the factor. The perinatoligists explained that my non invasive test numbers were good so it was a "personal" decision if I wanted to do an amnio. One Dr. said if you know that you would continue with the pregnancy no matter what-skip it. We knew we would regardless so it was an easy decision not to.

Re: Where any of you 35 plus years old when pg? Did you have an amnio?

With my second I was 36 and declined the amnio because all of the other testing was normal. In my case, I had a history of miscarriage and in my heart felt this was my absolute last pregnancy and that the numbers regarding miscarriage from the procedure, applied to the "average" woman with the "average" pregnancy and not me.

That said, if any of my testing had been suspect, I would have done it. I also would have done it if I was closer to 40 because, that's when the numbers, in terms of abnormalities, start to drastically change. Also, what the numbers don't tell you, is that if you've had a healthy child already, your more likely to again have a healthy child.

Good luck!!!

I had an amnio. Will have another one if I am PG again. I knew I would have one from the beginning so I had no ultrascreen. There was no reason for it.

Re: Where any of you 35 plus years old when pg? Did you have an amnio?

My sister was over 35 on her last, and had an ammino but i think it was b/c the babys umblical cord only had 2 vessels in it and not 3.

My OB told me they are considering changing it to 40 and over to have amino, b/c more women are having babies later in life and they are finding the rate of the babies having problems are lower.

Re: Where any of you 35 plus years old when pg? Did you have an amnio?

I was over 35 and did not have the test. I had all the non-invasive tests and they all came back with great results. The OB asked if I wanted the amnio and I wasn't sure. He asked me what I would do if the results were less than favorable, and I said nothing - I'd still have the baby - I will love my baby no matter what. He told me there was no point in having the test then since there are some risks involved.

I was 37 and did not have an amnio. All other tests came back fine, and I didn't like the idea of a needle in my belly.

All tests were good so one was not offered to us besides we both agreed we wouldn't want one since nothing would have changed our minds anyway Chat Icon

Re: Where any of you 35 plus years old when pg? Did you have an amnio?

I was 39 when I got pregnant, 40 when DS was born. We did the ultrascreen and got good results. Then we did the 20 week ultrasound and the AFP test, which also came back good. If there was something odd with any of these tests, I would have done an amnio.

They are optional, which a lot of people don't realize. My doctor did press for it, but I really did not want one. There are risks with them, and they are slight, but there are risks.
