When did your baby start holding the bottle (and knowing they have to hold it up)?

DD gets so excited when she sees the bottle and always grabs it and puts it in her mouth, but she doesn't know to lift it so the milk comes down into the nipple. Once I hold it up for her she takes her hands away. When did your DC learn to do that?

I guess around 8 months he learned to hold the bottle consistently. It was about a month later he learned to hold it up.

Logan is the same age, and right now he holds it, but hasn't figured out to hold it UP. In fact, when we're feeding him, he holds it and pulls it down while we're holding it up. Chat Icon Little twerp!

My DS gets excited when he sees the bottle too. He wants to hold it, but he loses interest.

I use the Avent bottles and bought these handles that go over the bottle. I just started using them this weekend. I let him hold his own bottle in his high chair after he's finished eating a meal.

The handles are good because they are easier for him to grasp, but I have to watch him. The handles make me somewhat nervous because I'm afraid he'll poke his eye. Chat Icon

10 months while we were on vacation. We were in Disney and she was in the stroller a lot of the day and she figured out how to hold her bottle then.

DD almost a year will not hold her bottle - I guess because she bf'd for so long. She will hold the sippy cup though with handles and has no problem feeding herself. Maybe I'll try those handles too.

Never.

DS still doesn't know what to do with a spout sippy. A regular cup, he gets that he has to lift it up, but anything with a nipple/spout he thinks is a straw and either doesn't understand or refuses to lift it up.

Re: When did your baby start holding the bottle (and knowing they have to hold it up)?

DS can hold it, but he never does. It is probably my fault, since I always feed it to him and never try to get him to feed himself. He will hold his sippy cup just find though. He is 10 months!

Sophia is 4 months and just starting to do exactly what you described Sienna doing. She opens her mouth big and grabs the bottle to push it into her mouth, but after that she really just molests the bottle Chat Icon im guessing in the next 1-2 months shell get the hang of holding it

Lexi does it most of the time. She grabs it and puts it in her mouth. SHe will hold it the whole time for the bedtime bottle when she is laying down in our arms. She will hold it when I lay her on the boppy pillow. If she is sitting in the high chair or on the couch- she won't hold it.Chat Icon

Re: When did your baby start holding the bottle (and knowing they have to hold it up)?

DD could hold it at 5 months but only at 6 months started to realize that she had to tip it to get anything. She basically holds it herself all the time now at 7 months.

Exact same thing here! Sometimes they lift it up when it is upside down while squeezing the nipple, thats always fun!!!
