My family holds separate functions for siblings or the other sibling bails out - which is perfectly fine.

We smile at each other than wish daggers in their back as they walk away. I never let the kids see the animosity. It isn't their fault they are related to a moron.

We just stopped going to functions on JT's side of the family all together. It's really the only way for us to handle it. However, I still send my niece and nephew birthday cards and gifts because it's not their fault that their parents are horrible people. Chat Icon

We invited no one from JT's side of the family. It was really sad that he felt he couldn't even include his aunts and cousins, but he really didn't want to deal with the inevitable questions. He was never close to his extended family anyway, so I guess it wasn't a huge deal. I still have a little bit of contact with one of his cousins, but that's rare. Other than that, we just pretend none of them exist. It's worked for 10 months, so far. Chat Icon

Re: Has anyone experienced hardships with parents/Inlaws or siblings with children involved?

My SIL has 3 kids and we have Bella. I have really sucked it up for occasions since we started talking again after a 2 year stint of not speaking (he did not see his nieces at all during this time)

I don't take pictures with her...I limit my contact with her as much as I can or just tune her out as she complains about how terrible life is...

she is being beyond a nasty person to DH right now and we didn't invite her to Bella's 2nd birthday with family after she made an excuse not to come to Bella's kiddie b-day...it's pretty my DH's decision and I don't push him either way.

We are having Thanksgiving at our house this year, so I am hoping she doesn't come...

There are enough people on my side that I don't have to talk to her when we have a larger family function...and at this point, after almost 7 years of this, I could care less. She is miserable, I am not...and she is jealous.

ETA: IL problems are the worst of the worstChat Icon my big lesson is supporting DH in his decisions and being united in how we feel and act...he speaks up, I learned to stay quieter.
