Anyone been told one sex at 12 weeks and then other sex at 20 weeks...what was the outcome

As you all know I was told boy at our 12 week and I had a strange suspicion he was wrong I really didn't see "what" he was talking about...meanwhile yesterday at the Level II yesterday they said it was a girl and triple checked it to make sure its a girl and the sono tech and dr both confirmed its a girl....I'm just soooo nervous, I'm decorating the room in mainly pink and girly things what if they're wrong this time!!! UGH!!!!!!!!

our tech refused to take a guess, she said it was way too early it was a random doctor that took the guess and said he has been wrong in the past but he's mainly right...I just can't help but wonder...

At 12 weeks almost all babies genitals are developing externally and virtually look the same which is why most techs and drs will not even attempt to guess that early. I would say it's a safe bet that you are having a girl.

Trust me, I understand completely, especially since people STILL tell me they think I am having a boy (strangers and family) and think it would be hilarious if I did Chat Icon I had them confirm it at 3 sonos though so I think I'm safe too!!! Chat Icon

I'm actually happy that I have to go back at 28 weeks to check if my placenta moved up so I can reconfirm it's a girl..Chat Icon I'm pretty sure it is, but that stupid dr that guessed boy so early on is making me just that little bit nervous!!!!

Re: Anyone been told one sex at 12 weeks and then other sex at 20 weeks...what was the outcome

I was told at my 12 week ultrascreen the sex. The tech explained that they can tell not by the genitalia because you can't tell that way so early, but she did show us how they can tell that early. I'll find out on 9/22 if she was right. She said they are usually correct. A friend of mine who went to the same place for a sono (she's also a poster here) was told a girl at her 12 week sono and had it confirmed at her Level II it was indeed a girl. s

The doc we had seemed a bit incompitent and was trying to show us by the genitalia and I honestly didn't see anything but a dot...oh well...I guess since we had the tech and the dr confirm it this time around I can be a bit more sure....

A friend of mine was told boy at 12 weeks, found out it was a girl at 20 weeks. Her baby was all Chat Icon at delivery.

Do a google search on genital development and you will see that at 12 weeks boys and girls look almost identical. I really believe that anyone who got a correct gender guess at 12 weeks just got lucky -- they have a 50/50 chance either way.

ETA: There is a "nub theory" out there that says the sex can be determined by the angle of the nub. I think that's pretty accurate, but you can not tell the sex from a regular "toilet shot" at 12 weeks. The nub theory is still pretty new and I don't think many techs are familiar with it.

Re: Anyone been told one sex at 12 weeks and then other sex at 20 weeks...what was the outcome

At 12 weeks I begged for a guess from the tech- who refused and said it's too soon, and also from my doc. My doc said you can't tell now...and when people do take guess now, this is when they often get it wrong. He said at 12 weeks girl parts are often bigger than boy parts, so if someone sees something and therefore guesses boy, they're often wrong. And not seeing anything isn't a sign that it's a girl at that stage.

Did they see the 3 lines? Or just nothing? If they saw the 3 lines, I'd say you can be confident it's a girl. But I'm sure I'll ask them to triple, quadruple check at every aapmt I have ;)

I was told at 20 weeks that I am having a boy and I am sure I saw a pee pee Chat Icon but people are going to still say that the tech could be wrong. I am going to get a 3D sono done to make sure! 12 weeks seems a little early to find out the sex so now that they are saying its a girl, I would believe they are right.
