That's what I always said. I never understood the rush to potty train early. Like...why?
I mean, there’s a slew of reasons.
It’s better for the environment.
Dignity for the child.
A sense of accomplishment for the child.
The cost of diapers.
I know people who have waited, and then been in a pickle bc school required them to be trained and they weren’t. Starting earlier can give them time if they’re having trouble.
I am not talking about waiting until they are 4 or 5.
I am talking about the rush to train at or before 2 years old when they are clearly NOT ready.
I don't know many 2 year olds that have much dignity to be honest....
And my DD was trained early because daycare trained her. But again, if she wasn't ready I wasn't going to push it.
I mean the first road trip after she was trained was horrible. We had to stop at nasty rest stops constantly. I so missed diapers at that point.
My 3 year old screamed “I have to go to the bathroom” across an indoor pool yesterday. No dignity. No shame.
Also, re the environment. See #1. We’re practically granola munchers with our only children, Nell. We’re doing our part.

Oh and my "no dignity" story involves DD at about 4 or 5 years old yelling out in the middle of a quiet restaurant "Mommy, I forgot to wear panties!!"

My middle guy is almost 4 and, although he is fully potty trained, he refuses to go use the bathroom. He still has to be in diapers because he will just pee his pants and sit in it. Not a care in the world. Or, on occasion, he will strip himself and parade around in his bday suit, as he prefers. I can't trust him at school with no diaper on. Ugh. I can't stand it. He's a real gem, this one.

Yeah, I am confused by this too. How is he potty trained if he pees in his pants and has to wear a diaper? Did you try keeping your DS in underwear and making him clean up the pee accidents? That's the only thing that got through to my DS when we were training him. He was over 3, and I had just had enough.

Toilet training
My son was pee trained at three, but was not poop trained until 4 and a half. No amount of three day method, oh crap potty training, rewards chart, bribing, sitting on the toilet for hours worked. He was finally pooped on the potty on Christmas Eve and that was it, he was trained.

Just like anything else I had to conquer in parenting- getting rid of the bottle, getting rid of the pacifier, toilet training- when she was ready it was super easy and quick- when she wasn't it was an utter horror show nightmare where we both suffered emotional scars.

Same. I had to convince them but it took a day to train each of once they realized they were. One was 3y 4m and the other was 3y 9m.
My tip - don’t listen to anyone’s comments if it’s not done by a certain time.

That's exactly what happened to us. She refused to poop on the potty until after 4 years old no matter what we tried.
Then one day boom! She did it for no reason and never ever had an issue again

Toilet training
Honestly my daughter was so easy but my son was not fully potty trained until 3 and a half. I tried everything with him and then one day it just clicked. Don’t stress yourself too much.
One thing I found great was the training underwear. It’s a thicker and more absorbent version of cotton underwear
