Paris and London with family
DH AND DDs (6 and 8) are going to Paris for four night and London for two nights in July. Any recs for hotels? I am looking at the Hotel Left bank Saint Germain for Paris but we’ve never been there so I am not too sure. Any recs for either city for centrally located hotels near the fun stuff and transportation would be great!!!

We went to Paris and London last July (no kids though.) in London we stayed at the Nadler Kensington. Very convenient to the underground transportation. Nice hotel, very clean and updated, no onsite breakfast, although we ate at a cafe every morning right across from the tube station.
In Paris, we stayed at the Astotel Hotel le 123 Elysees. We really liked it. Convenient to transportation, good breakfast. They are part of the Astotel chain which has several locations in Paris.
It was a great trip, although it was unusually hot when we were there. Enjoy!

No specific hotel reccs, but just wanted to say that every time we go to Paris we stay in the St Germain area - it’s by far our favorite area. We (DH and I) always stay in small boutique hotels so nothing i’d really recommend for kids. But that’s definitely a great area of the city to stay in! It’s so beautiful and not too touristy!

When we went to Paris we stayed in an Airbnb that had the most amazing views of the Eiffel Tower.
We spent one night at Hotel Atmospheres a boutique hotel. They had a very small family room that was 2 small rooms with a pull out couch. It was fine for the 1 night that we were there.

Paris and London with family
Check out the Hotel Pont Royal. I stayed there when I went to Paris with girlfriends. It is in St. Germain, a couple minutes walk from Musee d’Orsay. It was cute and cozy and in a great neighborhood with lots of cafes and a Monoprix (French grocery store) across the street. We really liked it.

I’ve been thinking seriously about this.
We are set on London with our family of 5.
I wanted to do Paris too, but with those protests, I’m putting it off. My friends who work for the US embassy also suggested it (with the thought things may get worse).
Maybe get trip insurance?

Paris and London with family
We recently went to Paris without the kids and stayed at Hotel La Lanterne in the 5th district. It’s super close to the metro,Norte Dame and the lively Latin quarter. We loved how central it was and easy to see the other sights with a quick trip on the Metro.

For Paris, I’ve stayed by the Champs-Élysées and by Rue Cler. I don’t remember the exact hotel names, but I enjoyed the area by Rue Cler. The former was kind of a boring-ish area.
For London, I have stayed in many areas. I have stayed with friends and also in hotels (ex used to have a lot of business in London, so I always tagged along; I have a few friends in London that I stayed with the other times).
High Street Kensington is really central and good for shopping. I stayed with a friend’s family, and from there you can get the District and Circle lines.
Marble arch is a good central area. I stayed there for two weeks and I thought it was a good central location. Only one tube line (Central).
Shepherd’s Bush: I had an AirBnB there. It was in Zone 2, so a bit out of the way.
Westminster: I stayed here and that was also centrally located to Big Ben, House of Commons, and the Abbey. It is on a major tube line (District and Circle) and that will bring you to many different sites and stations for easy transfers.
Tottenham Court Road: I stayed in a Raddison here and I liked it. This is by far my favourite location. It’s close to the British Museum and some good shopping on Oxford and Regent Streets, but it can be quite crowded. They just redid the station, so it’s a bit better.
Victoria: I’ve stayed here a few times. The location is really good, especially for transport. It’s a major hub and you can get the Victoria, District, and Circle lines from here. Brit Rail is also there if you want to do day trips. This is my second favourite location.
Putney: I stayed here with a friend and the High Street is nice. However, it’s a bit out of the way in Zone 2. I stayed with a friend, so it was free accommodation.
Canary Wharf: I stayed in the Four Seasons, which was really nice and close to City Airport, but a bit out of the way, especially if you fly to Heathrow or Gatwick.
King’s Cross is a fun area, too.
Bottom line: You are going to pay a lot for central locations. The areas I suggested are somewhat reasonably priced. I would look into getting an AirBnB. Try to get something in Zone 1, but if you want to save, then get Zone 2. London is expensive.

I’m going to butt in...
St Ermins Marriott vs Westminster Radisson vs Marriott in Bethel Green vs Marriott in India Quay??? None are cheap except maybe Bethel Green. 2 rooms come out to more $$$.
We are looking for something semi central in London for a family of 5 (lots of hotels don’t cover this and we know too many people with bad AirBnb experiences and the places recc to us by a local did not support 5 people... I emailed). We are Ok taking an easy metro, but would like food close and walking to at least some things!!! We don’t want to stay in the “queens” of London. We would be without a stroller with a 4 year old as the youngest.
We are Marriott rewards members (and have the card so get bumped up if available and other perks).
Looking to get a different type of vacation for the price of a trip to the Carribean. We are saavy but are a large, slow group.

This is awesome, we are considering a London trip and then driving through the countryside to of to Peppa World (yes, this is real). A friend suggested King's Cross.
Might have to pick your brain as it gets closer!

To be honest with you, I didn’t pay much for accommodation. I think I have paid four times in the 20 times I’ve been there. Everything was with friends or my ex’s company paid for it.
I would do Marriot if you get a discount. But honestly, you are going to pay a pretty penny.

I went to Paris for the first time this July. I would not recommend going in the summer because of our experience of a major heat wave. I never wanted to go in July but it ended up working out that way. Not many places have air conditioning so it was hard to seek a cool place. Our clothes would be soaked with sweat about 15 minutes leaving the hotel.
I always wanted to go to Paris and high expectations. It was nothing like I expected. So much construction everywhere. The entire perimeter of the Eiffel Tower is rubble. They are building a wall around it for terrorism purposes and it was really horrible walking and breathing in that dust. There was so much garbage every where I was in shock I have tons of pics. I also didn’t feel very safe there.
I stayed at the Plaza Athenee which is the hotel Carrie Bradshaw stayed at in the last episodes of the Show.
The hotel was a dream, I also did a spa treatment at the four seasons hotel George V. It was the most incredible spa I’ve ever been to.

Paris and London with family
We are staying at the Thistle Kensington Gardens this summer. It's right next to Kensington Gardens and a very short walk to the Queensway tube station. We are going to Paris as well but we are staying at Disneyland. We'll only do 1 day in Paris proper and 3 days at Disneyland. We are traveling with a 7 year old.

We did a day trip to Disneyland Paris. I think very doable in 2 days, not sure you need a full 3 days there

Thanks! It's gorgeous. Pricey for me and my BF. But not terrible for 2 couples.

St. Germaine is without a doubt our favorite part to stay in. It is quaint, you can walk to the islands and louvre, amd its by a convenient subway. If you pass cafe danton, say hi for me!
