Anyone use a curling WAND instead of a curling iron?

I curl my hair almost every day. I have always shied away from using curling wands because I'm a true spaz when it comes to hair styling and had no idea how to use one and just pictured myself burning myself on it.

I recently watched a you tube video of how to create waves and the woman was using a curling iron just like mine but was wrapping her hair around the barrel and not using the clip. I tried it and I loved how the waves came out.
And miraculously I was able to do it- not great yet, but definitely passable, and I'm practicing.

The thing is, the clip kind of gets in the way and is annoying when curling like this because you have to hold it up the whole time.

So I thought maybe a wand might actually work better.

Does anyone have one?
How is it?
Is it a pain to use?

I have a wand. I personally love it. I used to use an iron with a clip but I haven't looked back.

I have the Drybar one.

I use a wand daily. I cannot do my hair with a curling iron. I use a Remington wand I got at Target. It comes with a glove, but I don't wear it, I just am careful not to burn myself.

I use the wand everyday and I'm a total hair spaz. It's so easy to use. I have a thick barrel and it makes nice thick, natural looking waves.

I just can't believe I have been curling my hair wrong all this time.
No wonder it looked like shit.
LOL

Just wrapping the hair around the barrel like this has made a huge difference in how it comes out.

I'm such a moron.

Yes I only use a wand for the past couple years. So much easier for me.

I used to use a wand and loved the curls but I would always burn the sh!t out of myself with that thing. I gave it away.

It's easier for me to use the regular curling iron as wand. I feel like i get to mix up the curls too. I also use the flat iron to curl my hair as well.

Yeah that worries me. I've burned myself before with a plain curling iron so I know how much that hurts!
Some of them come with a heat proof glove. I may have to get one of those.

L'ange makes amazing wands and all their hair products are great. I first saw their videos on FB on the L'ange page and on HowDoesShe. There is a woman Savanah Poulsen who does awesome tutorials. Jasmine Rae Hair Co. also has really good tips and videos. I only buy L'ange stuff on sale (and they usually have good sales or promo codes that they show on the Facebook page). I wouldn't pay full price for them because there's always a code available.

Anyway, I have the 25mm and the 32mm titanium wands, hairdryer and the straightening iron. I use their shampoo and hair care as well. My hair has never been healthier and shinier. And they smell AMAZING! Huge fan!

ETA: The L'ange wands come with a protective glove. If you order one, it's kind of hidden in the box so don't throw the box out without getting the glove out! My friend did this so I gave her one of mine since I have both size wands. Also, it's kind of hard to get a good grip on your hair when using the glove so you can cut a small hole in the tip of the thumb and pointer fingers so that your hand is protected but you can still hold your hair. I've realized that if anything, I burn my hand, not my fingertips so cutting the holes works well to protect you. I don't use the glove at all anymore but I suggest starting with one. I burned the shitt out of my hand a few times when I first started without the glove. Still got scars!

I like curling wands, but sometimes the curl is too much. You can get a protective glove. I use curlipops by Bed head.

I prefer to use a straighter iron (I like GHD) for curls. There is a really good tutorial on YouTube that is so simple.

They usually come with the gloves. Mine had one but it was big and cumbersome to use. Also could be that I have such small hands and fingers so it didn't work for me. You may have better luck, I see people use them all the time.

I just bought the Bombay 3-1 set and it came with a wand attachment. Maybe I will I give it a try.

I haven't used a curling iron with a clip in years. I have a few different wands- tapered or not, big ones, little ones. I've burnt myself a couple of times but nothing too bad. I find it easier to do and I don't get those little kinks at the end from the clip.

ETA: I tried to use the gloves to avoid burns and I felt so awkward. I just do it more carefully without them.

Re: Anyone use a curling WAND instead of a curling iron?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I need to check them out.

My DH is going to kill me because I have so many freaking hot tools! Different sized curling irons, hot air brushes, etc.
I just recently bought a larger barreled curling iron when Ulta had a good sale on it because I thought that maybe I needed a bigger barrel to make the curls I was looking to achieve. Turns out it wasn't the barrel but the technique.

I use my curling iron as a wand. You do NOT need to hold the clip the entire time. I keep the clip closed and wrap my hair around it. The clip gets just as hot as the actual wand part.

Wow- never thought of this actually. Why, I don't know! I was actually wondering if DH could remove the clip!
You don't find it makes any weird dents or anything?

No weird dents! I style my hair that way 80% of the time. I always get compliments.

I don't use a curling iron that often, but when I do, I use it like a wand. Just keep the clip closed like pp said.

I agree 100% with everything she said!

I have the 32 mm Titanium Wand - get the Lustre wand because it has a tip at the end to hold.

I also have their hair dryer and flat iron.

I use their shampoos, conditioners and styling products.

Definetely follow Savanah Poulsen on FB and Instagram. On FB her page is Bold Beautiful Life.

Re: Anyone use a curling WAND instead of a curling iron?

Because you are already using your curling iron that way, I would definitely switch. I thought I was the only person using a curling iron with a clip anymore. I do not use a curling iron often so I have not switched. I want to try to switch because I don't even think they will make them with clips anymore, and I think they are already online only for some stores.

I definitely bought one with a clip recently in Ulta when I wanted a larger barrel. So they are still around. But what a difference using a wand! I thought it would be hard but it's actually easier even for a hair spaz like me.
I also tried using my clip one as a wand...and just not opening the clip like others have suggested here. It worked fine until my hair got caught up and tangled in the big screw that holds the clip on. I ended up ripping out some hair. Yeah, not good. Lol
