First, if you know me IRL, please please dont say anything. This may be a bit long so here goes....I had preeclampsia and HELLP last september and delivered my baby 2 months early. All is well....I pumped for 6 months. Got very painful clogged ducts about 3 times (never mastitis) and stopped at 6 months. Fast forward to now....7 months after stopping pumping. Last week I thought I felt a lump. It hurt (felt like a clogged duct). It was around my period. Period came and went, lump still there. Went to my OB. Said he felt something. Could somehow still be duct, feels glandular but wasnt that concerned. Nevertheless, sent me for Mamo and Sono - I'm 39 and have never had one. Which I had last night. They see things. See things behind the spot that is hurting, not sure what the spot is that is hurting and see things in my lymph nodes. That being said, they've schedule me for 2-3 needle biopsies. Needless to say, I'm FREAKING out. I have 2 kids under 3. My dr is trying to reassure me not to panic. Said if my nodes are swollen it could be infection relating to the lump I feel, may not be, and now the question is what is the stuff behind what I'm feeling. I dont quite not whta I'm looking for here....maybe anybody who can either say that they strangley had clogged ducts months after stopping breast feeding or pumping--- or someboyd who had breast biopsy and ultimately all was good. The biopsy isnt until next week (that was earliest) and then a week for results. So I'm going to be in 2 weeks of torture. I've been up since 3:30 a.m. (and have been throwing up with anxiety). I'm petrified. I want to be around for my kids. I hate my husband's family and cant imagine them being the primary influence....so many thoughts. anybody been through this?

First I just wanted to say i am so sorry you are dealing with this. It’s totally normal to feel the way you feel. I have zero experience in breast feeding or these types of lumps personally. (I did have a biopsy once on my breast but it was a cyst. Biopsy didn’t hurt) But my sister and my BFF both had mammos that found something and my sister needed biopsies and markers placed inside her breast because of calcifications found. But got the all clear.
The fact that you were BFing and are so young, really points in the direction that you’ll be ok. Just keep that mindset as much as you can. I’ll send you some good juju.

Keep busy!! As busy as you can from now til the biopsy date. That’ll help keep your head straight while you wait.

Thank you for the support. I spoke with another radiologist at another location that my sister knows and got my appt moved up to tomorrow because I'm freaking out. She looked at my report and did indicate that things "didnt look great" == she wasnt going to sugar coat it-- but hadnt yet seen my films and said we wont know anything for certain until the biopsy. I just keep trying to tell myself that lots of women survive this.....I sure as sH&T hope that I'm one of them!!

I'm very sorry you're dealing with this. The radiologist is right- they can't tell a thing until the biopsy.

And yes, even IF it is something serious, the majority of women survive and thrive.

Good luck to you!

Any update?

I’m going through something similar, though I haven’t breastfed in almost 6 years. I saw my gyno in September and all was fine. Last week I felt a lump in my right breast. I went on Thursday for a mammo and ultrasound they saw the mass and confirmed it wasn’t there last year on my mammo. Yesterday I had a core biopsy done. I asked the radiologist what he thought, knowing he couldn’t really tell me anything and he said it’s definitely suspicious, not to say it isn’t a cyst, but it has some of the properties that are considered concerning. I’m holding my breath waiting for the results...

I’m so sorry for you. The waiting is terrible. For me....it’s cancer. And not early. . And it’s in my lymph. It’s been a whirlwind week. I’ve seen 3 surgeons for opinions and they all agree I need chemo. First appt with oncologist today. Another next week for a second opinion. Pet scan Friday to be sure it’s nowhere else. And I’m guessing starting chemo right after thanksgiving. They’re telling me I don’t have time to wait to start treatment. Best of luck to you. I have never been this scared. I want to see my kids grow up. For your sake I do hope it’s notbibg and will pray for that....but keep us posted. Best of luck.

Oh no. I’m so sorry to hear this. I’ll be praying for you. Chat Icon

I have cancer too. From what we can tell so far, it’s early and he didn’t see anything on ultrasound in my lymph nodes. I have an appointment on Monday with a surgeon and I’ll know more then. I’m so scared. I have 2 girls (8 & 6) and I can’t imagine not being here with them.

Best of luck to you too - let’s keep in touch and be strong for each other.

I'm so sorry to hear this news for the both of you on this post Chat Icon

If you don't follow her already, Jennifer Goldberg Rozenbaum on FB and twitter had Breast Cancer and Vlogged her entire battle. Very inspiring, real and has been giving people resources when needed.

My neighbor is a BC survivor and received a ton of support from the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition (It's not just for west Islip, they help all of long island) you can check their FB page as well for more information.

I wish you both the strength you need to fight this. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

P.S. Please accept any help your friends and family is offering. A lot of people try to do it all, etc. Let them help. Even if it's grabbing groceries, or dropping your child off at school. You NEED to take care of YOU.

Thanks everyone. I have a long road ahead, but odds are in my favor at this point that I will be ok. I have HER2+ Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. This means that I have to have chemo before they can do any surgery. Starting the chemo on 12/3, should take about 20 weeks to finish the treatment, then surgery to remove what’s left of the lump and some surrounding tissue and then radiation. I am still in disbelief, but I’m going to do whatever I need to do to beat this. The next year is going to suck.

I hope Brooke23 is doing well. Thinking of you.

Thank you. Had 2nd round of chemo today.....during my exam they said my tumors (breast and lymph) already felt like they are shrinking. Made me happy --- now just have to deal with my hair starting to fall out which is really and truly going to make me miserable. Just have to keep moving forward. thank you!

Thanks everyone. Like Brooke, I finished my 2nd chemo treatment and my hair is starting to go. My tumor also seems to be responding so that’s great.

The hair loss is terrible. Makes you feel just awful. I got my hair cut super short and when I’m ready I’ll go back and get it buzzed. They said they’d do that for me for free.

Please keep up the positive thoughts and prayers. I appreciate it so much!

Brooke and Beanie — I have been through this. I am so sorry to read that you are both going through it as well...I know how devastating the entire ordeal is but also how the hair loss can be such an emotionally difficult thing to work through.

Lots of love, hugs and good vibes to both of you. Reading that your tumors are responding is amazing. Please feel free to FM me if either of you would like.
