Re: EZ pass
DH has one because he drives into work on the weekends (in the city) vs taking the train. It automatically replenishes when the balance gets low. The only thing I don't like are the EZpass express lanes where you don't have to slow down because we've gotten a few tickets by mail that way, because the reader didn't pick up on the EZpass but got a pic of the plate (got a few of these from driving down to DC recently).

Re: EZ pass
No reason not to have it. You only get charged for when you use it, you get discounts on some bridges, and the city is moving towards cashless tolls as we speak.
To clarify cashless tolls- you do not need ezpass as the toll will just catch your license plate and send you a bill in the mail.

Re: EZ pass
I just got a bill for a toll my DH went through. I am in the process of applying for EZ pass. It is charging me $25 for EZ pass plus the toll at a discounted rate I owe. Am I correct the $25 is a credit for future use or is it some kind of fee?

You need to set up some amount on it. I believe $25 is the minimum replenishment amount
And the discount is always, not just on peak hours. I've had ez pass for over 15 years and I use it a lot between long island, manhattan, the bronx...5.50 vs 8 something is a big difference

There's not always a discount on the GW bridge, only for non-peak hours.
