Was woken up by my neighbor this morning after a rough night where the kids kept waking me up. DH was nice enough to get up with them and let me sleep. So much for that.

Just wondering what time most people feel it's appropriate to start using your insanely loud powerwasher during warm weather on the weekend.

I think in most towns there are rules about noise...usually allows it after 8AM

That is early to me. This was just before 8:30, which I think is very rude on a Sunday morning, even if it's "allowed". Even if you're awake, I don't want to hear that so early. DH and I like to drink our coffee outside when it's nice and that's the last thing I want to hear.

Re: After what time is it ok to use your powerwasher on the weekend?

Pretty sure it's 8am

I get that it's annoying for some. But for others, like my DH, he's waits patiently doing quieter jobs until it's late enough to start louder jobs. He works 6 , sometimes 7 days a week. With Sunday being his only day off. He starts at 6am and doesn't come back in until almost dinner time withball the outside projects.

Honestly .. I'd be glad the neighbors care for their houses and keep the neighborhood looking it's best. I feel like every neighbor, including us, were out power washing last week.

Yesterday someone was cutting trees down all morning. It was loud but that's what happens when you don't live in a secluded area.

Well at least they're not using the power washer every weekend. Be happy for that.

Everyone needs to Upkeep their homes and they're all entitled to regardless if their neighbor had a bad sleep the night before.

I know it can be frustrating but I don't find 830 all that early. I was hearing leaf blowers at 730. If people would be so concerned about waking someone up; nothing would get done. That's how I look at it. Especially since most of us only have weekends to do these things anyway.

Hopefully you'll have time for a nap today Chat Icon

Hah! That won't happen, but thanks!

I guess everyone's view of "early" is different, which is why I was posting. More of an opinion question than legally speaking. In the past, I didn't let my kids go outside screaming in the yard before 9am but going forward I don't think I'll worry about bothering anyone else!

eta- I think we may be a bit out of touch regarding getting loud yard work done. DH is not very DIY, so we usually hire people to do this type of thing and it happens during the week.

My rule of thumb is 8 am on weekdays, 9 am on weekends. However, I wouldn't be annoyed if a neighbor started work earlier, unless it was something ridiculous like 6:30/7 am.

I personally would not start before 10 am because I have neighbors who don't have kids and I remember what it's like to sleep in on the weekends. We're up at 7:30 everyday so it wouldn't bother me at this point.

We usually don't do loud yardwork until 9. I am an early riser though and feel like by 9, my day is already half over - lol. I also know that our closest neighbor has a toddler so they're up by 7:30. I usually see them st the gym around then so I know we wouldn't be disturbing them!

just an FYI, neighbors are not just those that live next or across from you, but the entire street and surrounding streets and those home owners can still hear mowers etc. :)

8 am. By 9-10 I have already put in a half day since my ds is up with the first light.

IMO while some might not be early risers as long as they follow the local noise ordinances you have to deal with it.

Unfortunately not everyone gets the weekends off...my husband works 6 days a week/odd shifts, so sometimes 8/8:30AM is the only time he has available to do something before leaving for work at 10.

I would say 8 is plenty late enough, even before I had kids.

I think 9:00 am is fine to start work but I think the law is 8:00 am. Last year we had a few huge trees taken down and they started at 7:30. I ran out and told them they had to stop until at least 8. My neighbors probably hated me lol.

The houses by me are not as close as they are on LI. Chat Icon I can barely hear when my other neighbors do yardwork.

My town I think is 8am. My neighbor religiously every weekend, especially sundays is out there at 8:01 either chain sawing something or doing some big project... how it's every weekend I have not a clue but he's out there if it's nice out.. doesn't bother me too much, and DH doesn't mind because he can get out and work on the yard early so we have the day free as well

Around where I am.............by 8am all bets are off. You'll hear gardeners, power saws and hammers from neighbors doing projects, etc. People like to get an early start on the weekends so they have time left in the day to do other things.

It amazes me how early people like to start shit.
On weekends we like to ass sit from the time we get up - which could be pretty early, until we have to take DD to gymnastics at 10 am.

Sundays we ass sit even longer.

I am NOT a morning person.

LOL
