Even if you're thinking or planning on leaving LI, or don't like LI in general, there are still some positive things about the area.
Post at least one thing you like about LI.
I love the food on LI. I've been to a bunch of other areas of the country, but nobody else can seem to make a good pizza or bagel. We also have a nice variety of cuisines available to us.

Not being landlocked.
The cuisine, the ease of shopping, the variety of entertainment available - cultural, musical, for children, for adults.
And can't forget the wine.

I love the fact that we do live on an island. You can be at a beach in a matter of minutes or be in the greatest city in the world.

The smell of the water.
We live on the north shore and we're not big beach goers or boaters, but I do I've the smell of the water.
Sometimes I forget that I live on an island and how cool that it is...despite its disadvantages.

The natural features and wildlife. I have a small lake out my back door so I love watching it sparkle in the morning. We like watching the variety of birds, especially birds of prey. I love drivng 10 minutes and parking on the bay to take in the view. I like that there are tons of activities, museums, shopping, parks, and beaches nearby. I love that the city is close by with ask that it has to offer.

The seasons................mostly fall and winter! 
I also love the access to awesome Italian delis, great bagels and awesome pizza!

There are some really nice hiking spots. My favorites are the Cold Spring Harbor section of the Greenbelt Trail (the section north of Lawrence Hill Rd. is super busy on warm weekends, but the south side usually isn't) and Target Rock Refuge in Lloyd Harbor.

Proximity to everything! 1 hour I can be in the city or 1 hour east and I can be camping in the woods. The beach/water is literally 5 minutes from me.
